This CD takes you on a musical journey around the different cultures in Brazil.
Most of the songs are in Brazilian Portuguese, so they give you an insight into how the Brazilian people have changed the original Portuguese language and made it their own. A few of the songs are in other languages, such as one in french, which has a very samba like quality to it. This se of a different language mixed in with the native language helps to demonstrate the cultural diversity in Brazil, and the rich education that people can get if they want to. This helps to put to shame the common preconception based on the reports of the many thousands of people in Brazil living in shanty towns. It is true that there are many people living in those squallid conditions, but this CD shows that there is another side to Brazil and that some of the aspects of Brazil are very prosperous, another indication of this being the current hype with the world cup, as Brazil have won it more than any other country. Another indication of the different styles of music around and prominent in Brazil is the song "Papo Cabeca" which has an opening with the singers using vocal percussion with lots of consonant sounds to give the effect of drums. This technique comes over the CD very well, and you will be finding that the song is running through your head as you try to work out how the singers have made those noises and you will find it hard to resist the temptation of attempting them yourself. As the name of the CD suggests, all of the songs on this CD are very upbeat and you get a very festal atmosphere from listening to this music. This music would be very good for a party atmosphere, and is likely to get every guest up and dancing as the festivities start to flow.
If you like this CD then there are many more CDs from the putamayo range that are there to suit every opinion. The music comes from all over the world and the amount of diversity is awe inspiring. The choices range from lullabies for babies to songs to listen to while you are having your coffe, to the many CDs including this one which make you want to get up, dance and have fun, while enjoying a diverse range of cultures. These CDs really give a large opportunity, as the music helps to describe the general atmosphere of the countries of origin. A definite recommendation.
Enjoy.
