Faith hill is a wonderful singer. If you have never heard any of her music she is classed as a country singer but is steadily moving more in to modern country/pop. Her first albums were classic country music but this latest album "breathe" is a totally different sound, it's more upbeat than ever before.
She has released 4 albums - (1st) "take me as I am" , (2nd) "it matters to me" , (3rd) "Love will always win" or otherwise know as the self titled "faith" and lastly "breathe". If you own all the albums as i do, you will see her music steadily progress into pop as she became more famous. She's a major hit in the US (winning loads of awards) but hasn't exactly stunned the UK music buying public (but she stunned me!). She deserves more credit in the UK than she gets as if you take time out to listen to her ... she is a great singer. I would class her in the same catagory as "shania twain" , "trisha yearwood" and "martina mcbride".
Anyway to the album....
There is a mixture of sounds on the album, with a range of meanings, feelings and expression. There are 13 tracks of amazing songs. She doesn't write any of the songs herself but the best tracks have been picked for her and her writers deserve lots of credit.She has got a great band on this album . Here is a summary of each track and my rating -
1)whats in it for me - A great track to start the album off. It really gives you an insight as to whats to come. It builds up with music for a while (long intro) then an amazing powerful (deffinately country origin) voice booms out an amazing song. 9/10
2)I got my baby - Another uptempo number - i love the sharp piano in this. "baby I got you yeah yeah yeah" you have to hear it to hear the impact but it makes me wish i could sing like this. 9/10
3)Love is a sweet thing - This a song which tells a story about a man first and then a woman both singing "love is a sweet thing" basically meaning anyone can have love man or woman and it's the best feeling. This is summarised in the last verse "in the smile of a strangeer , in the eyes of a child ...... it's every where around us ..... love is a sweet thing" - - - Love is for everyone. I "love" this song - 10/10

A good title track . 9/10
5)Let's make love - A duet with her husband "Tim Mcgraw" a slow love song. Tim and faith sound great singing togther. Faith sings the first verse - they sing the chourus together - Tim takes the second verse - 9/10
6)It will be me - a slow one. Not one of my favourite on the album- it doesn't make a big impact on me. 6/10
7)The way you love me - this has a great music video , I love the chorus of this song. great song . 9/10
8)If i'm not in love - nice piano to start this song off. A slow song with a nice melody. A really nice ballad - 9/10
9)Bringing out the elvis - It's not about elvis but using elvis as a metaphor - "your bring out the elvis in me, making my hips wannna to swing..." . - 8/10
10)If my heart had wings - One of my favourite tracks from the album - love the begginging of this song , and the sharp piano over the top. "if my heart had wings, i would fly to you, and lie beside you as a dream..." I love the lyrics. 10/10
11)If i should fall behind - A slow song, not one of my fave's- 7/10
12)That's how love move's - I like this slow song especially the chourus. Its about how love makes you feel. That sometimes you're on a high etc but sometimes you can be hurt. - 10/10
13)There will come a day - deffately one of my fave's . I sung this on Kareoke once at my friends house because i loved it and new all the words. This song is the song that got my friends into liking faith.It opens with piano and gets more instruments as the song goes on. She sang this song on the opening of the CMA awards in 2000 and what an amazing performer - with a gospel choir type backing singers ... wow ... great ending to a perfect album - 100000000/10 !
The "breathe" album and "love will always win" album by faith are my favourites. This is probably because they are more modern country and thats my type of music. I really reccomend this album to people who like Faith, modern country , country, Shania Twain and Tim Mcgraw (considering he features on this album).
Advantages: Nice range of styles and tempos, from the singalong to the slower. Disadvantages: None
I've liked Faith Hill from the beginning, and this CD showcases her talents admirably. From the upbeat opening track - "What's In It For Me" - you are treated to a brilliant mix of new country music. This first track is a great crank-in-the-car and sing-along-to song. The opening of "I Got My Baby" reminds me of the Bay City Rollers - I could almost see Les and Woody rocking side to side. Another upbeat song, and one of those with kind of a feel ... ...Motown joyfulness of some of the raunchier songs in their sixties heyday.
"Love Is A Sweet Thing" is slower, and begins with a taste of those twangy guitars that used to epitomise country and western all those years ago. I love the words to this ballad.
Title track - "Breathe"- is a slow haunting melody with a couple of upbeat sections. Funnily enough, this is one of the tracks that I least like on this album. It's got some nice lyrics, and Faith ...

I bought my first Faith Hill album purley because it had This Kiss on it, which has to be one of the best songs ever made. At time I had also just bought Come On Over by Shania Twain and I thought that Faith Hill's music was within the same vain of being able to bridge the country/pop boundry. However although both Faith and Shania have the same ideas they are infact very different, where as Shania's excellent music is more poppy Faith has stayed ... ...My favourite song on Breath has to be The Way You love Me which is so bouncy and a great song to walk or run to as it's so bouncy. Faith really diserved her CMA for best Female Artist and I feel her duiet with her husband Tim Mcgraw should have also taken and award. With Faith, Shania and the Dixi Chicks country musice is reaching a wider audiance and is no longer seen as sad and boring. ...

Advantages: some of the best ballads ever Disadvantages: a couple of songs a little too poppy for a country album
I am the proud owner of 7 faith hill cds and this one next to'CRY' is one of my favourite. I even had to go out and rebuy it when my car stereo ate the disk and didn't want to give it me back. One thing faith hill does...the best...in my opinion is the power country ballads. ON this one you have a couple of her best and most moving...by far the most touching is...if i'm not in love with you! which starts of with a bit of piano and works its way up ... ...love with you

This cd would appeal to fans of new country but maybe a bit pop-like in places(eg i got my baby and if my heart had wings) for some but is quite main stream so i feel it would be enjoyed by anyone who likes great vocals, human lyrics and great melodies. This cd is worth buying just to hear faith do the bruce springsteen song 'if i should fall ...

I am a music fan in general and I don't dicriminate as to what I listen to. I love rock, r'n'b and country with a dollop of pop added in for good measure. If I like a song I like it, no matter what genre it belongs to. But I have to say that there are very few artists whose entire collection I like. FaithHill is one of them. I am a fan of her recent material. You know... 'There You'll Be', 'Breathe' etc, all of her crossover material from when she made the decision to take on the non-country listening world. However, I do prefer her early material, the real country stuff. I have done since I was flicking channels about aged 13 or 14 and spooted a blonde haired women in a long black dress standing by a piano belting out a tune... you guessed it - it was FaithHill singing 'It Matters To Me', the title track from this album.
