Album Notes: Contains 2 previously unreleased alternate takes. This set collects the best of Robert Nighthawks' late-'40s and early-'50s recordings for the United label. These are arguably some of the finest tracks he ever recorded, though he was never less than fully committed and engaging right up until his death in the '60s. His slide guitar playing--generally on a single string--is full of searing passion and fire, and his vocals can convey loss, longing, anger, and hope with honesty and flair. On a slow blues like "Seventy-Four" his draws out notes, both in his singing and playing. The personnel varies, but the rollicking Roosevelt Sykes is one of the standouts among the piano players. The drummers leave a compelling mark on these tracks, especially on the alternate take of "Maggie Campbell," with the freewheeling rolls hopping to the fore. These are essential blues recordings by a pivotal and often underappreciated bluesman.
...Well this is a rare live album from Mr Waits - you can get this for just over a fiver these days which is a bargain - look how much you get for your money!

Advantages: good case styling, foundations is a really good popular track Disadvantages: lots of un-needed swearing and lack of constructivism
...instrumentals a more catchy lively song. Very pointless lyrics though lasting way to long lasting 13 minutes 10 seconds as it is a bonus track.

I have attached pictures of my copy of this album below so you can see for yourself what they look like as well as having my own opinion on the styling.
This disk is in a modern and new style case that is easy to open and operate without being damaged easily nor do the clips on the side snap off easily like some others.
The covers a bit strange Kate Nash appears to be dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, hopping down the yellow brick road (Wizard of Oz) The picture quality how ever is really good and the text is in a stylish very easy to read font that stands out well in white at the top of he cover in the sky, above the house and garden pictures on the front. Advantages: Some less often heard pieces by Robert Stolz Disadvantages: Insensitive conducting which swamps singers
...Having lived and worked in Vienna for several years, I\'ve always had a big soft spot for operetta, waltzes and Viennese music in general. Done well it can be as satisfyingly enjoyable to listen to as drinking a mug of my favourite Austrian Kaffeehaus speciality - \"heisse Schokolade\" (hot chocolate) topped with a big dollop of perfectly whipped cream... Unfortunately, listening to this CD - which is with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Iain Sutherland and the two vocal soloists Julia Migenes and Sebastian Reinthaller - is like forcing yourself to drink thin watery cheap cocoa with nasty sludgey powdery lumpy bits lurking in the bottom. It isn\'t good at all, I\'m afraid.
Robert Stolz lived from 1880 to 1975 and really continued the Viennese style of operetta and light orchestral music that had been so successfully...
