Bridges [SACD] - Hans Theessink

Advantages: Always sounds Fresh, a landmark in Rock music!
Disadvantages: The Original doesn't have the song "When a blind man cries"

...I personaly believe this to be Deep Purples finest work, straight from the Mark 2 line up of Gillan, Blackmore, Glover, Lord and Paice! While fireball was a fine album, it lacked ideas and outstanding riffs. Machine head has riffs and ideas that have influenced millions of mucisians! Starting with a terrific sream on highway star, it gets the adrenalin rush going, a fast paced number, witten on a bus to portsmouth, great guitar and organ solo, simply amazing. Maybe i'm a leo, a great bles number, nice bass riff based on the off beat. Pictures of home - frantic drum solo kicks off a shuffle number, great rhythm, creep lyrics, well timed drum rolls. Never before - the single of the album, not as popular as they had hoped, but still good, check out the bridge nice eerie double tracked lyrics! Smoke on the water, what can i say? amazing... Advantages: The Music & SACD 5.1 Surround Sound

...This is the third time I have bought this album, the first on vinyl, second on CD and now on SACD. This is one of Dylans best, the lyrics are superb, poetry that only Dylan can write. For example, the lyrics on buckets of rain (1:28 into the track), and I quote. " I Like The Cool Way You Look At Me......Every Thing About You Is Bringing Me Misery". Just wonderfull. The acoustic guitar on Buckets of Rain sounds superb, you can hear the full resonance and quality as if Dylan was playing in the same room. The same goes for the other nine tracks, they are just as impressive with superlative sound quality and lyrics. In conclusion I suppose you could say that the overall feel of this album is intimate and sublime to real life. Advantages: All the benefits of the quadrophonic recording without the crackle
Disadvantages: the vinal still sounds warmer

...What can I add after that title? I have my original pressing first release vinal album which still sounds superb although getting a quadrophonic amp that still works is a bitch! This SACD presentation brings back much of the original feel and nearly the depth of the original which the cd lacked particuarily if used via naff kit. This is Floyd at their peak in my humble opinion and one of the defining albums of the twentieth century. If you don't already own it buy it now forget Seargent Pepper and th White Album this is the must buy album of all time. Ok you need a sacd player and a decent 5.1 amp to appreciate this album at its best having said that if you have the kit sit back and enjoy. It's hard to believe this album was recorded so long ago considering the multi level nature of the tracks that are so far ahead of their time.... Read review
