When I saw the film of Bridget Jones’s Diary, I enjoyed the soundtrack, and decided that if it were available on CD I would buy. Luckily, in my local Woolworth store the following week I saw a copy, and bought it.
But what made me want to buy this soundtrack, when I normally don’t bother with any sound track. The last one I bought was ‘Grease’!
Well, Bridget Jones’s Diary is an excellent film, and the music is appropriately placed throughout the movie. Which in turn makes the film a lot more enjoyable, especially when the music is also appropriately chosen music.
So who are the artists on the album that make it so good? There are various artists on the album, which means something for everyone really. There are some old favourites and some newer artists. But who exactly? Well, for a start there is Andy Williams (yes his still alive), singing “Can’t take my eyes off you”. Then we have more up to the minute stars like Robbie Williams (Both – Williams) he sings “Have you met Miss Jones”, a song I presume was written for the film. Gabrielle sings “ Out of reach”; while Geri Halliwell sings her latest single “its raining men” (Originally by the weather s). Other stars include: Sheryl Crow (Kiss that ), Shelby Lynne (k-illin kind), Dina Carroll (Someone like you) and more.
The music varies from the upbeat sounds of Geri Halliwell belting out her stuff to the quieter more placid stuff like Andy Williams. The album has 19 tracks on in total (why not 20?). A lot of the songs you can place to a scene in the movie, which is quite effective.
For instance the song: “All by myself” by Jamie O’Neal, was song when Bridget was feeling slightly sorry for herself with half a bottle of v odka, and miming the words to the song. While “its raining men” by Geri Halliwell, was song when a fight broke out in a restaurant.
All in all a great movie and a fabulous soundtrack
