This as you would have already guessed is the soundtrack from the hit film Bridget Jones Diary. All the songs contained in the album feature in the film in some way. There are 19 tracks on this soundtrack. Some of the artists are current big names like Robbie Williams, Geri Halliwell and Gabrielle. However it isnt just recent hits that star in this but some of the older hits that carry on today.
There is a good mixture of ballads for when she is feeling really down and more upbeat tunes for when she isnt going to let life get her down anymore.
Gabrielle with out of reach headlines this album. She had a comeback this year after a longtime off. She started off with her hit song Dreams but then just fizzled out. Her previous song put her back in the limelight and this cross between in a ballad in terms of the lyrics but not in the powerful nature of the song. Her deep almost husky voice I would say draws the words out to slow the tempo of the song down.
Aretha Franklin with the all time classic respect. This song is a get up and go song which is there to inspire women. Making everyone realise there should be respect for us girls and no one should try walking over us. ( no disrespect to any blokes reading this.
Geri Halliwell- its raining men. This cover version of the Weather Girls hit reached no1 in the charts. Its fast, upbeat and gets everyone up dancing. The kind of song that could perk you up when you are down. Compared to the original version of the song it does fall short of the mark. The original song had much more impact and her vocal changes in some parts which she uses to put emphasis on words dont always seem right. There was this spoof interview of her on one show where someone was taking off her. It asked how she made this song and she replied with. That she was taken into a studio and had to go its, its, its ,its 100 times, then raining, raining, raining another 100 times, then men, men, men and then they chose the ones that sounded most in tune. I found that quite funny and in parts when compared to the original it does make you wonder.
Robbie williams with have you met Miss Jones? This is like an old style jazz song. When listening to this you imagine it being in a jazz club with the band playing behind. The song talks about Bridget and her life.
he is the only one to have to songs on this soundtrack. His other song is Not of this earth. It is a balld that has a good beat in the back ground through out. It comes in slowly at first then gets louder and the singing starts.
Chaka Khan with im every woman. This old time classic that was in the advert for womans own magazine. It is a fast trck that again is there to inspire women.
other tracks on the album include:- - Pretenders - don't get me wrong - Sheryl Crow - kiss that girl - Shelby Lynne - killin' kid - Dina Carroll - someone like you - Andy Williams - cant take my eyes off you - Rosey - love - Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye - stop, look, listen to your heart - Shelby Lynne - dreamsome - Patrick Doyle - its only a diary - Alisha's Attic - pretender got my heart - Jamie O'Neal - all by myself - Artful Dodger & Robbie Craig - woman trouble - Aaron Soul - ring, ring, ring.
Its a great soundtrack to complete a great film. With mixture of ballads and get up and go songs.
I liked the film and I think I'd like the soundtrack too. ~Liz

Hi, I only saw this film last week and thought the music sounded great so I'm glad to read this opinion. There are a few typos at the end of this op. If you correct them please let me know and I'll come back and rerate. Cheers, Susan.
