Advantages: Cheap, good range Disadvantages: They lie!
Over the Christmas period our fridge freezer broke down. Against our better judgement, and only because we felt we really needed refrigeration with 2 babies in the house, we ventured out into the post-Christmas sales. We found a great model (which I'll review in a few months time!) in Comet. I will say, it was a great price, at only £499 for an LG all-singing-all-dancing USA-style unit. But, actually buying the thing was not easy as the store was heaving. Eventually my husband and myself managed to tackle a passing assistant and pin him in a corner where he couldn't escape!
The assistant SEEMED very helpful. We pointed out the model we wanted and he looked on the computer system to see when it could be delivered, and most importantly, plumbed in, since it had an ice-maker/dispenser. We pointed out that (a) we had never had a plumbed ...

Advantages: the price is reasonable and the design looks good Disadvantages: This DVD Recorder is very difficcult to use, the manual is very inadequate.
Visiting a Comet store is almost as exiting as visiting a funer al parlour. The staff walk around like zombies, sometimes they stop chatting to each other and ask "can I help you?" but their bored expression doesn't invite any dialogue. Their attitude is very anti customer, but wait, DON'T BUY ANYTHING, if it proves to be faulty you will really have a battle to gain any kind of satisfaction. I guess these poor people are paid peanuts, let's face it,it's all their worth.
I bought a Samsung DVD Recorder, when I plugged it in there was no front display or it was very dim. I returned the item to Comet, they kep it for a week and then told me the DVD Recorder met the manufacturers specification, Comet gave me the run around, re-directing me to other departments, who re-directed me yet again.
I rang Samsung and they described the problem ...

Advantages: Remote control with backlit display; MDLP function which allows you to store 4 CDs on 1 Minidisc; slimline form factor Disadvantages: No place in case for remote control; no record function on remote
When I first purchased Sony's MZ-R900 minidiscrecorder, I didn't have to even open the manual to use it. The buttons are very simple to use - volume, stop, record on the front of the device; play, search, fast forward and rewind on the edge of the minidisc player on a jog dial. A separate jog dial allows menu navagation.
After recording some music onto a blank minidisc, I found that the sound quality of the MZ-R900 is great - there is no loss in quality. I also discovered that I had an optical connection on the back of my Playstation 2, which can also be used to connect the minidisc player to it.
The case supplied with the MZ-R900 is very handy, and although I have had the player for a year now, there is not even a fingerprint on it! I have simply used the 'hold' function on the device itself to stop accidental button pressing ...
