... However, a seismic event was to happen in 1985, the release of the 'Brothers In Arms' album.
So here's my thoughts on it.
All the tracks on the album were written by Mark Knopfler the bands lead singer with the exception of 'Money For Nothing' which he co-wrote with Sting.

Advantages: Just a terrific album. Disadvantages: Still associated with yuppies in their BMW's
...Verdict - Miss
9) Brothers In Arms
The title track of the album, which also provides a stunning end to the album. Haunting guitar riffs, with subtle keybaord sounds and stunning lyrics which combine to produce my second favourite track on the album behind 'Your Latest Trick'. The lyrics are really sad, and if you were the type of person prone to crying you could be easily tearful listening to this song, as it seems to chronicle the tale of like ... ...A brilliant ending to the album.
Verdict - Hit
So to summarise, with seven out of nine tracks registering as a hit by my assessment this has to be one of the best albums ever released. It's place in history is also assured as it's considered by many to be the album which launched the cd as a mass market media and certainly signalled the end of vinyl (boo hiss I hear from any DJ's out there) and also hammered the first nail into the coffin of cassette ...

Classic Review ofBrothers In Arms [Remastered] - Dire Straitsby

Advantages: The Amazing riffs! Disadvantages: One or two weak songs
When I think dire straights I think of sweet guitar solos and old style rock and that is exactly what this album provides.
Dire straights are one of those bands I used to listen to when I was in the car with my dad as a young boy, along with the likes of The Talking Heads and R.E.M. this is one of those bands which I distinctly remember from my childhood. Back then I liked this band for their sing song songs but since then I have begun to appreciate ... ...industries. The band in my eyes are really quite legendary and this is album is quite a fine offering from them.
I don’t really know much about the bands singer but he sounds like a happy rock singing hippie to me and in some songs you could almost pass him off as being stoned cause it sounds like it in a weird way! But he is a key element of what made the band stand out from many other of the same style at the time. He has a good voice which fits ...

Advantages: A classic, beautiful guitar based music Disadvantages: A little short
Brothers in Arms was the first thing that I ever spent my own hard earned cash on. When I got my first wage packet, back in the dim dark days of 1986, I went to my local Asda and bought it on tape for £4.99, mainly because I had heard the track Brothers in Arms on the radio.
Since then I have actually re-purchased it three times, first replacing the tape when I literally wore it out and then buying two cds (replaced the first because it was damaged). ... ...especially on the final track Brothers in Arms.
Track 1 - So Far Away
A little on the mournful side, with slow guitar riffs. A good opening track.
Track 2 - Money for Nothing
More upbeat tempo. A cynical song about the rise of MTV with backing vocals from Sting. Was accompanied by a classic computer animated video. "Money for nothing, and your chicks for free"
Track 3 - Walk of Life
Catchiest tune on the cd. More synthesizer playing than guitar ...

Still Engaging Review ofBrothers In Arms [Remastered] - Dire Straitsby

Advantages: Beautifully crafted songs, understated musicianship, several radio hits Disadvantages: A far cry from the non-commercial band people came to like to start with
...completely different and unexpected with brothers in arms, it still went on to be hugely popular in fact a whole lot more so than all the other albums that dire straits had ever done, which just goes to show how big they were, in fact for a time this was the biggest selling album in the uk ever
So any good?
Well nothing on this album is particularly heavy but the songs themselves are all beautifully crafted and all have instrumental passages in ... ...such as the title track brothers in arms, sporting event favourite walk of life and mtv's unofficial theme song money for nothing, but it boasts so much more for instance your latest trick has one of the best pieces of saxophone music I have ever heard and so far away is such a laid back masterpiece that i'm surprised there are not people out there trying to make a career off the back of its simple but sublime set-up
Overall this is an album that ...

Made this boy a man Review ofBrothers In Arms [Remastered] - Dire Straitsby

...fun nonsense 9 - Brothers in Arms - Most emotional track on the album, which can still bring me to tears now, over thirteen years later. If you ever need a record to explain the futility of war, this is the one. The album is an amazing mix of styles and moods, but produced without a fault all the way through. This was the showpiece album for this group of hard working musicians, and proved Mark Knopfler one of the worlds greatist guitarists. If you ...
