...After working in pubs for a while I got addicted to chilling with this guy on many occassion. Listening to 'BrownEyedGirl' become a regular pastime at the pub.
This is a great album with such brilliant tracks like:
*Gloria
*Bright Side of The Road
*Dweller on the Threshold
*Have I Told You Lately
To name just a few.
I don't know exactly what it is about VanMorrison that draws me so much, whether you normally find him singing in the local pub or whether his voice and music is calming and soothing. His love ballads are beautiful and the song 'Have I Told You Lately ....(that i love you), will be remembered by all....

Advantages: some brilliant songs Disadvantages: that Cliff duet
...The shops are awash with "Best of" compilations which turn out to contain one top twenty single and a heap of instantly forgettable fillers. It is very rare to find one which is packed full of quality music. The Best of VanMorrison is one of the later. Make no mistake, this is the genuine article.
This CD contains twenty mainly outstanding tracks from Ireland's hero. If you think you don't know any Van songs then this recording may surprise you. It certainly surprised me. The majority of these tracks are commonplace on the likes of Virgin and Radio 2's Johnny Walker show. (and no doubt on other decent radio stations I don't get in deepest Aberdeenshire)
While a little young for Van at his peak I was aware of his music although I had never bought any. A couple of weeks of listening to a Napster download of "BrownEyedGirl...

Track 2 Beside you (run time 5.10)
Mood and time come into play in this track. It is an evening song, with the hauntingly beautiful words, and melody that takes the mind into thought and reflection. If you close your eyes, you can almost see the shadows of evening and the way in which the time of day alters the reactions of the human mind. Rambling, almost melancholy and sad, what keeps this song together is the harmony and almost spontaneous flow.
Track 3 Sweet Thing (run time 4.10)
Having gone from melancholic sadness in the last track, VanMorrison takes you into the world of conviction in this next song, as you listen to the words that spell belief in what he saying, reinforced by crescendos of background and reinforcement of words. The rhythm of this song is amazing and always fills me...
