Requiem not for the squeam(ish)

Advantages: Astonishing soundtrack, outstanding acting, visual style
Disadvantages: Extremely bleak, brutal and harrowing

shocked. However, although it might sound too bleak for you, there are some extremely important redeeming features. The most original attribute of the film, that every review mentions, is the directing style of Darren Aronofsky. Requiem For A Dream is one of the most stylish and best edited (and most edited) films I've ever watched. Speeded up parties (à la the Clockwork Orange sex scene), slow-motion, bizarre camera angles, cameras attached to the actors' body to show a close up of their face as they run, swirling, spiralling camera movements, a single 30-second shot showing half an hour's worth of Ellen Burstyn cleaning? OK so that last one didn't sound so interesting, but it's an unforgettable film purely from a visual point of view. Most eye-catching of all are the scenes in which drugs are taken. Rather than actually showing us ...

LA Requiem

Advantages: Easy to pick up and engaging
Disadvantages: None if you are not expecting high brow

This is a fairly typical novel in the Elvis Cole series. If you are looking for an in-depth, complicated thriller then this is not for you. But, if you are looking for a novel that is easy to pick up, with a story that is engrossing and genuinely enjoyable then this is a highly recommended - as are all the novels in the series. The difference with Crais is that he injects some real humour in to his novels and, unlike so many others in this genre, he seems to write with his tongue firmly in his cheek. This is not to detract from decent storylines and LA Requiem is as good as any in the series. Of course the plots are a little far-fetched at times and some of the characters appear more like caricatures, but this is not the point. This novel actually is a little more in-depth with character development than the majority in the series. LA ...

Review of L.A. Requiem - Robert Crais

Sounds of the Requiem

Advantages: Allows you to relive the film from moment to moment, wonderful composition, Additctive overture.
Disadvantages: Tracks are fragmented and short

Requiem for a dream .. aka Delusion Over Addiction Soundtracks accompany and enhance the experience of a movie. But seldom does it happen that that the score is so good that it stands out on its own to be marvelled at?. The Film ~ Requiem for a Dream, is an adaptation of Hubert Selby's 1978 novel about the harrowing lives of four drug addicts. A mother her son and his beloved Girlfriend, all who become dependant upon drugs and suffer mental illness. This film documents the emotional downfall of these characters, and illustrates their sheer drug induced desperation and melancholy quite graphically. Don't expect any happy end for its swamped in tragedy. The film itself is highly stylised. Aronofsky tries to a degree through surrealist imagery to create a realism where you become emotionally connected with the characters ...
