...Stax is one of the most famous Blues and Soul record labels, which was responsible for recording some of the best known artist of that genre. It was formed in Memphis in 1957 by Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton as Satellite records but changed its name to Stax (a play on the owners surnames STewart and Axton). It will always be associated with the development of Southern Soul, Chicago Blues and early funk as well as recording some of the first ethnically mixed bands, something very rare in that period. The label finally went bankrupt in 1976 but Fantasy Records eventually bought it primarily for its superb back catalogue and since 2004 they have been re-issuing some of the more popular recording s as well as some compilations. ‘The Stax Story’ is a massive four cd compilation of the best of the output from the famous Stax record label... Advantages: Some great, memorable songs from the 1970's
Disadvantages: A lot of rubbish along the way

...commercial hits by well known artists of the time. Yet, many of these songs I think don't hold that deep a connection with the show and in a way were just album fillers. 'Coz I Luv You' by Slade is an undeniable reference to the affection that Sam has for fellow copper, WDC Annie Cartwright. To me though, its appearance in the series seemed a bit corny, a feeling that for me translated over to the soundtrack CD. 'Whisky in the Jar' by Thin Lizzy is a song that I consider to be a classic rock track with great, edgy guitar riffs and powerful, engulfing vocals provided by Phil Lynott. However, in the context of Life on Mars, it makes very little sense as it was originally an Irish folk tale about a highwayman being betrayed by his lover! However, if you did want to find a link with the show, then I guess you could link it back to super alpha male... Read review

Advantages: Amazing mixes, Some classic tracks.

...Only a small colllection, but a perfectly compiled dance album. This one disk CD consists perfectly of fifteen of the hottest tracks around. It is just a taster of the bigger Fierce Angel albums. A Little Fierce is a must have!!! Inspired by the summer sounds of the baleraic island, Ibiza. The original inspiration of Hed Kandi, Mark Doyle has started a-fresh under the label of 'Fierce Angel' and god he has not dispointed us with this! Im pretty sure that its not going to be long before 'Fierce Angel' becomes as worldwide and noticed as Hed Kandi is, so snap these CD's up while they are extremely reasonly priced! 'Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar' along with 'Rhytnm is a Mystery - K-Klass' are two absoloute classics!... Read review
