...After watching a programme on television about the Buena Vista Social Club, I was inspired to buy this CD. And, I was not disappointed! I don't usually buy music from this genre but I was soon dancing around the room 'shaking my booty'! - not a pretty sight!! The front CD cover shows Ibrahim, wearing a leather cap, looking as though he's had a great deal of life's experiences and enjoyed them along the way! The plastic CD cover is also covered by a cardboard one. This CD is the first solo album by Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer. He was born in 1927 in Santiago and he moved to Havana in 1957, where he has lived ever since. He was well-known in Cuba for his singing, mainly as a backing singer for other groups, but it was not until he appeared with the Buena Vista Social Club, that he gained a more international recognition... Advantages: Relaxing, plenty of nostalgia
Disadvantages: seems quieter, perhaps sings with less passion than an Argentinian...

...¡A nice discovery! At first I was attracted by the drawing on the cover. Then by the topic: Tangos recorded by a famous turkish tango singer of the 40's and 50's. My imagination took flight.... Istambul just before or during the war... Spies and spices... Now seriously, I was not disapointed, but I was a bit surprised: the voice and the way Ibrahim Özgur sings those tangos turns out to be very relaxing. A bit different from the way Argentinians sing, since I would say they often do it with a bit more passion. But nonetheless this recording is plenty of nostalgia and suffering. Besides I love the way the turkish language sounds (since sadly enough I do not understand it). The music sounds nice. The pretty old recordings have beeen well treated. I already had a number of CDs of turkish classical as well as folk and popular music... Read review

...Years ago wandering through an Art market in Buenos Aires I asked a friend to recommend a CD that would be a good introduction to Argentinian music. After making our way to a music store, this CD, "30 Anos" was handed to me. It was the first time I'd heard of the singer called Mercedes Sosa. Mercedes Sosa is arguably Argentina's greatest and most prolific recording artist of all time. There are many CD collections of her music and it would be difficult to recommend one above the other, but "30 Anos" is a nice introduction to her music that stretches back to the early 1960s. The CD was first released in the mid 1990s. My copy unfortunately did not contain the lyrics. For many years Mercedes Sosa was known as "the voice of the silent majority" in Latin America.
