buffalo springfield is the debut album from the rock and roll hall of famers, featuring folk rock giants stephen stills and neil young.
this album features an ecletic mix of 12 tracks including the famous 'for what its worth'. the rest of the songs are perhaps not as instantly recognisable but in general the quality of the songs is very good. there is a good mix between laid back folk-rock such as 'hot dusty roads', 'out of my mind' and 'do i have to come right out and say it' to the frenetic blues of 'leave' and everything in between.
lyrically this album is very good as all the songs are either stills or young originals and the musicianship is very solid if not groundbreaking. stephen stills exerts the most influence on this album, taking lead vocals or lead guitar on the majority of tracks. Neil young only has a couple of songs where he takes the lead. richie furay adds solid vocals and rhythm guitar.
the inlay is well designed with some nice descriptions of all the band members using a bunch of random adjectives. overall this is a very good album and easily on a par with buffalo springfield again. either album makes a good place to start with this band.
