...but for some reason the Buffy The Vampire Slayer album diesn't correspond to this, it is absolutely brilliant! What you basically get is a compilation of most of the songs that are playing in the background of the Bronze whenever Buffy and co are there and a couple of the pieces of music they've used for special scenes and instead of a general review of the album I'm going to go through each song here:
1. Nerf Herder/Buffy The Vampire ... ...Your Eyes - remember when Buffy had to kill Angel to save the world? Well this is the piece that was playing in the background whilst you watched it, Classical Music - yep even in this mix of pop, rock, grunge, dance and ballads there is still a place for a piece of Classical Music and it ends the album in a fitting way.
But the album has a cover as well doesn't it?, well yes and its a tres terrible one at that - see the picture in ... more
It seems that theres an unspoken rule that Soundtrack Albums should be terrible but for some reason the Buffy The Vampire Slayer album diesn't correspond to this, it is absolutely brilliant! What you basically get is a compilation of most of the songs that are playing in the background of the Bronze whenever Buffy and co are there and a couple of the pieces of music they've used for special scenes and instead of a general review of the album I'm going to go through each song here:
1. Nerf Herder/Buffy The Vampire Slayer Theme - an easy one to start off with what you get here is the minute-long piece of music that opens the show, no more no less.
2. Guided By Voices/Teenage FBI - As with a lot of the music on this album, I've never heard of the artist performing the track but this is the type of song that wouldn't be out of place on the albums of bands such as Green Day, not exactly punk and not exactly rock but actually a clever mix of the two genres which makes you want to look for some more music by this band.
3. Garbage/Temptation Waits - one of the two British bands that appear on this album, again no introduction is needed for this music, if you've heard either Garbage or Version 2.0 you'll know exactly what to expect - once again its a mix of two genres only this time its Rock and Dance, the funny thing is I can't remember hearing this on Buffy.
4. Velvet Chain/Strong - genre-wise this is hard to place, there seems to be a mixture of everything all wrapped into one that makes this a track thats hard to follow, if anything this would have to be classed as sounding very much like a slow Natalie Imbruglia and there isn't anything wrong with that.
5. Hepburn/I Quit - Real musics answer to the Spice Girls, not only do they play their own instruments but they sing live as well - anyway theres not much that can be said about this track either, we all remember Hepburn appearing onto the scene when you couldn't read a magazine or paper without hearing about 'The Next Big Thing' in girl bands, but they stood out because of this track a cross of Pop and Rock that fits this album perfectly.
6. Furslide/Over my Head - Listen to this and you'd believe that you're listening to a certain Miss Alanis Morisette, it seems very angst-ridden but again this track doesn't seem out of place in this little bag of tricks so again it gets a thumbs up.
7. Bif Naked/Lucky - a bit of a rock-type love song this time, and its yet another great track! The voice that the singer has sounds like the voice of an angel (pardon the pun) and I'd be shocked if this band hasn't had any success since this album.
8. Black Lab/Keep Myself Awake - the Boyband of the album (well sounds wise anyway), and in my personal view the weak link of the album, a pop-type ballad that wouldn't look out of place on a Westlife album.
9. K's Choice/Virgin State of Mind - A slow-rock type of track, this time it sounds like you're meant to feel depressed when listening to this track, but it is a great song that will have you reaching for the repeat button.
10. Superfine/Already Met You - A grunge type of song that has lyrics that again remind me of Green Day, A pinch of rock has been sneaked into the track but again it works out.
11. Face To Face/The Devil You Know - pure and simple grunge-rock, to put this in the best way all I have to say is that all you headbangers out there will be in heaven listening to this.
12. Kim Ferron/Nothing But You - another person where if you closed your eyes you'd thimk you were listening to a different artist - this time its Natalie Imbruglia again, this track is once again a pop-rock song that could have come straight off the Left of the Middle album by Natalie and once again I wouldn't mind finding out more about this singer.
13. Alison Krauss & Union Station/It Doesn't Matter - all you country music fans are probably sat with your mouths wide open right about now and yes it is the same band, But if you like her music don't buy this album expecting the same all the way through because this is the 'mildest' track on the album - a beautiful ballad that is what we've all come to expect from this fine band.
14. The Sundays/Wild Horses - Another song that is milder than the rest of the album, this is another ballad on this album and the voice the female lead-singer of this band has is totally amazing and if I've even gone as far as buying albums by the Sundays all on the strength of this one song.
15. Four Star Mary/Pain - Back to what you expect from this album - pure rock, a song that reminds me of a cross between Bon Jovi and Semisonic, it includes the type of vocals you expect from Bon Jovi but the music of a heavier Semisonic track.
16. Splendid/Charge - And once again the ballads are creaping in again only this time it has a bit of a grunge-feel to it even if the lyrics aren't the type of thing you would expect to see in the top ten nowadays.
17. Rasputina/Transylvanian Concubine - A great song that seems to have a bit of everything in it the singer sounds a lot like Jewel (even if she is singing a type of song Jewel wouldn't touch in a hundred mile), the music is reminiscent of the slower type of song that the Foo Fighters produce and would you believe it they even find a place for a violin-piece that wouldn't look out of place on a Corrs Album - great stuff.
18. Christophe Beck/Close Your Eyes - remember when Buffy had to kill Angel to save the world? Well this is the piece that was playing in the background whilst you watched it, Classical Music - yep even in this mix of pop, rock, grunge, dance and ballads there is still a place for a piece of Classical Music and it ends the album in a fitting way.
But the album has a cover as well doesn't it?, well yes and its a tres terrible one at that - see the picture in the corner of the screen?, thats it - theres an advert for the videos inside and literally nothing more, but it is a compilation after all.
Well there it is, there's something for everybody here so if you're looking for something a little bit different and you see this hiding in the shelves of your local music retailer, buy it you might be pleasantly surprised.
Advantages: Some great bands and fantastic instrumental pieces Disadvantages: Hepburn's "I Quit"
...18. Close Your Eyes (the Buffy and Angel love theme) by Christopher Beck, taken from “Becoming”, Season 2
Most are bands featured on the show in the Bronze or in the background as a reflection on the characters lives.
The first and last track are instrumental pieces, though both quite different The first is a real heavy rock, head banging and catchy tune whilst the last could almost be counted as classical. Viewers will remember it ... ...rest of the CD at all. It’s a very unoriginal, dull pop song by an already fading British band. Essentially, this is a CD for obsessive Buffy fans who just want to have every piece of possible merchandise, but lovers of original rock and pop would also enjoy. ...

Advantages: Some fantastic songs Disadvantages: Some fantasticly bad songs
Being an avid Buffy fan, i was happy that Fox planned to release a Buffy soundtrack CD but also a little weary about what to expect. The music on the show never struck me as being something i would enjoy (Pops normally what i listen to) However the actual Musical scores were always good. So i decided to give it a go and hope i enjoyed it. I was very suprised about the brilliance of nearly all the tracks on the cd and now its never off my cd player. ... ...A peiece of music all Buffy fans love but hate, the music from when Buffy had to send angel to hell. The amazing music won Emmy's and was praised over and over for its brilliance. and its obvious why, the sad piano affair made the scene 100x more sad and listening to it on cd has the same effect. Brilliant piece of music from a brilliant composer
10/10

Advantages: Several outstanding songs in an album of quality offerings Disadvantages: A few out of place songs especially the ballad... the alternative theme won't appeal to all
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is essential viewing for literally millions these days but for the true Buffy fan there is more available than the video and DVD box sets… yes it’s the album. Personally I can see this being a very lucrative spin-off as there has been a huge number of songs used in the series and whilst only one album has been released to date I, for one, will not be surprised to see several more in the near future. Anyway enough ... ...series follows the exploits of Buffy and her scooby-do group of friends as they battle the demonic forces of evil and struggle with the altogether scarier emotional turmoil of adolescence. As you can imagine the album supplies a fairly eclectic mix of songs ranging from teenage angst tunes to dark gothic alternative and even finding space for the love theme music that was heavily utilised in the second series. Anyway without further ado here are ...

Advantages: A good mix Disadvantages: I want another one, mine got nicked
My love of this show is bordering on obsession; yes, I admit I’m an addict. In fact, even if William the Bloody (James Marsters) left tomorrow, I would still watch. This CD is from when Spike was a mere twinkle in Joss Whedon’s eye. It contains many bands I don’t really know, but because of the Buffster I gave it a go and I was glad I did too, when is the next CD out? Track 1.Buffy The Vampire Slayer Theme – Nerf Herder 8/10 ... ...synonymous all things Summers. Great catchy rift, Dunno whether I would buy an entire CD of theirs, but this is a great opening track. Doesn’t drag on either, which is good because sometimes songs without vocals can get on my nerves. Track 2.Teenage FBI – Guided by Voices 5/10 (Not yet featured to my knowledge)

...proves to be harder than Buffy imagined. She moves into a dorm, must contend with a less-than-stable roommate and the complexities of dating college men. On campus, Willow is overly enthused about college life and her ongoing romance with Oz , and Xander unexpectedly returns from his self-discovery adventure. Elsewhere, Giles seems to be enjoying his life away from being a librarian and a Watcher.
"Living Conditions" Dorm life proves to be quite ... ...out. Away from the dorm, Buffy meets Parker, a handsome older classman who is the first guy Buffy has been attracted to since her break-up with Angel. "The Harsh Light of Day" The underworld version of Sid Vicious, Spike, returns to Sunnydale in search of the vampire version of the Holy Grail, a mythical relic that supposedly gives the wearer unimaginable powers, and it's up to Buffy to stop him. What Is Buffy The VampireSlayer?
Well the question should now be what was Buffy The VampireSlayer? It was a massive television show about the chosen one, the slayer. In every generation there was one girl in all the world, who protects us from the evil forces of darkness. In comes Buffy Summers, a troubled child from Los Angeles, who burned down her old school gym (fighting vampires) she has moved to the picturesque and quite town of Sunnydale. She goes to the local high school, and makes friends with not only the popular kids, but also two geeks, Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris. It soon emerges that the kooky English librarian in her new ?watcher? and that she has moved to the Hell mouth the centre of evil. It lasted 6 years (7 seasons) and managed ...

Once upon a time a writer had a dream, his dream was to write a musical but at that time he was working on a hugely successful TV series he had created about a slayer and demons....alas what could he do??? That writer was Joss Whedon and write a musical is just what he did based around all his beloved characters in Buffy the VampireSlayer. Sounds wierd doesnt it? Sounds like it spells a sad phase for such a cult tv show? well we were all forgiven for having those thoughts about Once More with Feeling - the Musical episode of Buffy but bizarrely enough it works, and it works well!!!
Sunnydale as ever is under threat but this time the big bad isnt all fangs and bloodlust its singing and dancing. People are literally 'burning' to reveal their souls in musical routines - not even the scooby gang can escape ...
Advantages: Its got everything that you could ever want from a Buffy Soundtrack! Disadvantages: Only means something to Buffy Fans
*Please note that there may be Buffy the VampireSlayer Spoilers in this Review*
About this time last year, I was introduced to the whole Buffy the VampireSlayer scene. Call me behind the times if you want, but it?s a bit difficult to get to watch a programme that is on BBC2 at 6.45pm when you work shifts!
The episode that converted me was the one in which this album is the soundtrack to, Once More With Feeling. The following day I was HMV and saw the soundtrack sitting on the shelf, but it was £15.00. I thought it was a bit expensive at the time, so I decided to leave it until pay day ? and wouldn?t you know, when I went to buy it, they had none left (The story of my life!). Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was visiting my sister in law in the states and the local K-Mart was closing down, so we went in for a nosey ...

Album Notes
When speaking of the Zeitgeist of late '90s teen television and culture, it would not be fair to merely call "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" simply a tolerable element for people past the age of 20. "Buffy" stands on its own as one of the more intelligent, unique, and lively shows of the past decade. The commitment to quality carries over to the show's soundtrack, a blend of appealing alterna-rock--about half new and half previously issued--based on the show's occult themes. Guided By Voices' "Teenage FBI" from DO THE COLLAPSE is quite possibly Robert Pollard's most appetizing concoction to date. Bif Naked surprises with the enticingly ethereal ballad "Lucky" as does Black Lab, with the nugget "Virgin State of Mind." The soundtrack abounds with simple, indisposable pop tunes from virtual unknowns like Hepburn, with its jangle-pop gem "I Quit" and Superfine, with its country-tinged punk rabble-rouser "Already Met You." Finally, on any soundtrack worth its salt there is that one selection from a few years back that shoulda, woulda, coulda been a hit in a more perfect world. They choose the Sundays' Rolling Stones cover "Wild Horses." Perfect.
Album Reviews
Q (1/00, p.129) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...splices the theme music with selections from Hepburn, Garbage, The SUndays, Guided By Voices, rootsy country fiddle player Alison Krauss and various lesser-known names....It's not without a certain Gothic charm." Entertainment Weekly (10/22/99, p.91) - "...suggests the series' emotional obsessions: from repressed anger...to glorious gloppy romanticism....wonderful voice-from-the-crypt melodrama." - Rating: B+
