It seems that theres an unspoken rule that Soundtrack Albums should be terrible but for some reason the Buffy The Vampire Slayer album diesn't correspond to this, it is absolutely brilliant! What you basically get is a compilation of most of the songs that are playing in the background of the Bronze whenever Buffy and co are there and a couple of the pieces of music they've used for special scenes and instead of a general review of the album I'm going to go through each song here:

1. Nerf Herder/Buffy The Vampire Slayer Theme - an easy one to start off with what you get here is the minute-long piece of music that opens the show, no more no less.

2. Guided By Voices/Teenage FBI - As with a lot of the music on this album, I've never heard of the artist performing the track but this is the type of song that wouldn't be out of place on the albums of bands such as Green Day, not exactly punk and not exactly rock but actually a clever mix of the two genres which makes you want to look for some more music by this band.

3. Garbage/Temptation Waits - one of the two British bands that appear on this album, again no introduction is needed for this music, if you've heard either Garbage or Version 2.0 you'll know exactly what to expect - once again its a mix of two genres only this time its Rock and Dance, the funny thing is I can't remember hearing this on Buffy.

4. Velvet Chain/Strong - genre-wise this is hard to place, there seems to be a mixture of everything all wrapped into one that makes this a track thats hard to follow, if anything this would have to be classed as sounding very much like a slow Natalie Imbruglia and there isn't anything wrong with that.

5. Hepburn/I Quit - Real musics answer to the Spice Girls, not only do they play their own instruments but they sing live as well - anyway theres not much that can be said about this track either, we all remember Hepburn appearing onto the scene when you couldn't read a magazine or paper without hearing about 'The Next Big Thing' in girl bands, but they stood out because of this track a cross of Pop and Rock that fits this album perfectly.

6. Furslide/Over my Head - Listen to this and you'd believe that you're listening to a certain Miss Alanis Morisette, it seems very angst-ridden but again this track doesn't seem out of place in this little bag of tricks so again it gets a thumbs up.

7. Bif Naked/Lucky - a bit of a rock-type love song this time, and its yet another great track! The voice that the singer has sounds like the voice of an angel (pardon the pun) and I'd be shocked if this band hasn't had any success since this album.

8. Black Lab/Keep Myself Awake - the Boyband of the album (well sounds wise anyway), and in my personal view the weak link of the album, a pop-type ballad that wouldn't look out of place on a Westlife album.

9. K's Choice/Virgin State of Mind - A slow-rock type of track, this time it sounds like you're meant to feel depressed when listening to this track, but it is a great song that will have you reaching for the repeat button.

10. Superfine/Already Met You - A grunge type of song that has lyrics that again remind me of Green Day, A pinch of rock has been sneaked into the track but again it works out.

11. Face To Face/The Devil You Know - pure and simple grunge-rock, to put this in the best way all I have to say is that all you headbangers out there will be in heaven listening to this.

12. Kim Ferron/Nothing But You - another person where if you closed your eyes you'd thimk you were listening to a different artist - this time its Natalie Imbruglia again, this track is once again a pop-rock song that could have come straight off the Left of the Middle album by Natalie and once again I wouldn't mind finding out more about this singer.

13. Alison Krauss & Union Station/It Doesn't Matter - all you country music fans are probably sat with your mouths wide open right about now and yes it is the same band, But if you like her music don't buy this album expecting the same all the way through because this is the 'mildest' track on the album - a beautiful ballad that is what we've all come to expect from this fine band.

14. The Sundays/Wild Horses - Another song that is milder than the rest of the album, this is another ballad on this album and the voice the female lead-singer of this band has is totally amazing and if I've even gone as far as buying albums by the Sundays all on the strength of this one song.

15. Four Star Mary/Pain - Back to what you expect from this album - pure rock, a song that reminds me of a cross between Bon Jovi and Semisonic, it includes the type of vocals you expect from Bon Jovi but the music of a heavier Semisonic track.

16. Splendid/Charge - And once again the ballads are creaping in again only this time it has a bit of a grunge-feel to it even if the lyrics aren't the type of thing you would expect to see in the top ten nowadays.

17. Rasputina/Transylvanian Concubine - A great song that seems to have a bit of everything in it the singer sounds a lot like Jewel (even if she is singing a type of song Jewel wouldn't touch in a hundred mile), the music is reminiscent of the slower type of song that the Foo Fighters produce and would you believe it they even find a place for a violin-piece that wouldn't look out of place on a Corrs Album - great stuff.

18. Christophe Beck/Close Your Eyes - remember when Buffy had to kill Angel to save the world? Well this is the piece that was playing in the background whilst you watched it, Classical Music - yep even in this mix of pop, rock, grunge, dance and ballads there is still a place for a piece of Classical Music and it ends the album in a fitting way.

But the album has a cover as well doesn't it?, well yes and its a tres terrible one at that - see the picture in the corner of the screen?, thats it - theres an advert for the videos inside and literally nothing more, but it is a compilation after all.

Well there it is, there's something for everybody here so if you're looking for something a little bit different and you see this hiding in the shelves of your local music retailer, buy it you might be pleasantly surprised.
