Advantages: Well ahead of its time, a set standard for other pipe bands Disadvantages: No real solo piping tracks.
This album by far is well ahead of it release time, even today i still think it is one of the best pipe band cds on the market. The brilliant arrangements with supporting instruments make this one of Shotts best cd's that they have produced. The tunes played on this cd are mostly composed by Pipe Major Robert Matheson, another great composer who's music is being played by pipers all over the world. You will know right away when you hear the sound ... ...world champions.

Here is an overview of the tracks:
The Walrus - This hornpipe has to be one of the most popular hornpipes that pipers play today, and is probably one of PM Mathesons most famous tunes. The introduction into this tune is phenomenal.
MSR - This is their competition set at that time, and this is the track that you know why this band are world champions.
By the waters edge - A lot of hard work has been put into this tune, played well by the band with excellent supporting instruments.
Jigs and slow air - Some nice jigs played here, some even used in shotts competition medley today, slow air especially written for Dunblane massacre, a really nice sombre tune.
Farewell to Camraw - Nice tune but didn't seem to have as good as arrangement as most of the other tracks on the cd.
Strathspey and reel - A nice traditional selection.
Medley - This is their world championship winning medley, outstanding playing here from both pipers and drummers.
Piper Alpha - Yet another spine chilling slow air, the harmonies used in this track are amazing, really does make the hairs on your arms stand.
Dance Jigs - The nine of diamonds is played here, another one of pm mathesons brilliant compositions. Trust me, these would have your granny dancing.
6/8 Marches - Well most pipe band enthusiasts know that a good band is a band that can play 6/8 marches well, and this band really does.
Retreat Marches - Well if your not a pipe band lover, you will still recgonise these tunes and will be left humming them at your work the next day!
Brilliant Cd, that really is ahead of its time, a must buy for all Shotts and Dykehead fans.
