I was introduced to the cafe del mar series by a friend back in 1995, what a long time ago! I have never been to the famed cafe in Ibiza, but have purchased all the volumes in this series upto Vol 6. I stopped here because the man that puts them togther stopped, there are others and i'm sure they are good, but they won't be as good as this!
Jose Padilla is the master mind behind volumes 1-6, he has such a good understanding of music and the way that it can influence moods and feelings and his selections on the cds are outstanding. I will review each of the 6 as I get the time, but here we will deal with the first...
There are 12 tracks on the cd, I think you can still by it in the shops but remeber that it is now 10 years old!! This volume mixes tracks by Leftfield, Underworld, A man called adam and others, The penguin cafe orchestra features here aswell and i have since gone on to be a big fan of them.
The general musical style is instrumental and laid back, chilled out, there are electric sounds, pings, pongs, beats, guitars, whales yes i said whales, children, and all maner of natural waves, birds, water, you name it and its probably here!.The tracks all have a different sound and feel from each other, this is the secret of it though, no one else could take such a melting pot musical styles and present them togther like Jose padilla, if he were a she, i'd ask her to marry me!!
My personal favourite is The Hypnotist by Sisterlove. The track is a journey into your self and i recommend laying down and listening to the voice guiding you on your journey, try it, at the very least you will be relaxed after! who knows you may even disscover what lies inside those hard to reach parts of your mind????
'A man called adam' produce a very chilled out track titled Estelle, again the song just forces you to take time out and listen, and most importantly in todays hectic world, relax.
You will know alot of the tracks from the tv, almost all have been featured on holiday programmes. If you can find a copy then get one, you have to have this cd in your collection!

It's better with the tracklisting but a short description of each tune would help even more and if it's from an advert or program that you can name, then say! :)
