Advantages: A truly great CD Disadvantages: None whatsoever!
...One of my other musical passions is Cajun music. Cajun music is the music of the Cajun people of southern Louisiana. The history of the Cajun people is a tough one. Thrown out of their settlement of Arcadie in Canada (because, as French settlers they declined to swear allegiance to the British Crown) they eventually settled in southern Louisiana. They were a separate people, virtually a race apart, separated by the harsh environment and by their language, a sort of combination of French and some English.
Cajun music is largely played using the fiddle and or the accordion, with accompaniment provided by triangles or similar rhythm instruments. Though some guitar might also be used.
Cajun music is an exceptionally joyous music. It is almost as if they, as a people, are saying: "Well, our ancestors crossed an ocean, they got forced...

Advantages: Daniel Blumberg's voice Disadvantages: none really
...The Colourful Life by Cajun Dance Party hit the shelves on the 28th April 2008 in most stores through out the UK, and by the 29th April there was a copy in my CD rack.
I had longly awaited the release of Cajun Dance Parties debut album and i have to say, it was worth it.
The fact that this band have just left school but can still create a smooth, astonishing sound that sends shivers down my spin is amazing and is in need of a worthy applause. Daniel Blumberg's voice at the start of the song fits perfectly with the floaty sound of keyboard and drums, and also glides so softly along in the whole album.
Another thing that surprised me about this album is Vicky Freund...

Advantages: Varied selection Disadvantages: Several omissions which will hopefully appear in the next volume
...I'm relieved that this is Volume 1 of their greatest hits, as there's a number of missing tracks I would have liked included here. There's an over-representation of ballads rather than the rock tracks they started out with (while this is ok with me, it may not appeal to hard-core fans).
The Goo Goo Dolls aren't as well known as they should be in the UK, despite being around for nearly 20 years now, and I'd never heard them until they released "Let Love In" a couple of years back. This album opens with that title track, which is an inventive, faced-paced song. Better Days, another track from that album, is a slow, introspective piece, which has grown on me over time. Also included (inevitably) is Iris, their most famous track and still one of my favourite love songs of all time.
This a varied album, with several changes of tempo...
