6. Californication
The title track and still one of the best on here. This was the song that finally tempted me to splash out on this, and I like this. Again a slow and acoustic song but is powerful and loud in its own right. The moral behind the song is the fake world of Hollywood and all the hype behind it.
‘It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication’
... ...version. The guitars are much easier to spot and it lasts all the way through. Good lyrics as well – ‘the story of a woman on the morning of a war – remind me if you will exactly what we are fighting for’ and ‘you think it’s almost over – but it’s only on the rise’. Nice song
I am not an avid fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Though I like my music their sound is not always been for me. This is the first album from them that I have really got into, and I have to say that I am impressed.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a four piece funk/rock band. Lead vocals from Anthony Kiedis, guitar John Frusciante and bassist Flea and drummer Chad Smith. This album, their seventh is very much a mixture of sounds, some such as ‘Get on Top’ which has a real upbeat funk feel to another variation of rock. Both are equally good, though I have to say I still prefer the later. The album also is written by the band and shows some great little touches. Though not perfect it is developing and the vocals have improved. Some tracks sound and carry a very depressing message behind them. An example of this is ‘Otherside’ and there are the usual drugs rock and roll thing going on in ‘Parallel Universe’
The whole album seems to be based around the theme of California. More to the point the whole fascination and the belief in dreams there and how they are never going to come true. The word California comes up in the lyrics in about five or six songs as well as the title of the album and one of the tracks. ‘It’s understood Hollywood sells Californication’, ‘We all stay good, cause we all live in Hollywood’ speaks volumes about the fake dreams and feelings about the west coast. Interesting how scathing they are though I have to agree with them.
1. Around the World This opening song has a great intro and a great way to sign in for the new album. Ends well but does slip back in the middle. Good lyrics showing real life examples and good drumming throughout. Overall a good song and a good way to start off.
‘I know, I know for sure, that life is beautiful around the world’
2. Parallel Universe Quicker and louder than the first song. I like this, great music. Has a really good chorus, which is one of the best on the album where the guitars come alive. The parallel universe is the world of drugs and the strange results of them.
‘I swear it’s everywhere, it’s everything’
3. Scar Tissue The first single off the album and possible one of the most heard track off the album. Not one of my first favorites, this is a very quiet and slower tempo song. Catchy chorus and the whole song has a nice feeling to it.
‘With the birds I’ll share this lonely view’
4. Otherside Another slower song and one of the darker tracks. The lyrics are very depressing with the line ‘slitting my throat is all I ever’ amongst them. Nice song despite what is behind it and easy to listen to.
‘Stranger things could never change my mind, I’ve got to take it on the otherside’
5. Get on Top Great song again as this picks up the pace and is much better in my opinion. The song has a great speed and just a great way of flowing through from start to finish. Not the deepest or most lyrically song, still great though.
‘Compilations of a mastermind, last temptation of my mind’
6. Californication The title track and still one of the best on here. This was the song that finally tempted me to splash out on this, and I like this. Again a slow and acoustic song but is powerful and loud in its own right. The moral behind the song is the fake world of Hollywood and all the hype behind it.
‘It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication’
7. Easily Good song that is again a quicker version. The guitars are much easier to spot and it lasts all the way through. Good lyrics as well – ‘the story of a woman on the morning of a war – remind me if you will exactly what we are fighting for’ and ‘you think it’s almost over – but it’s only on the rise’. Nice song
‘Easily, lets get carried away’
8. Porcelain Not my favourite song on the album. This is too slow and just does not do anything. The quietest song on the album, one of the advantages that is it also quite short. Only the vocals can be heard at times, not the best.
‘Porcelain, are you wasting away in your skin’
9. Emit Remmus Another great chorus where the guitars really sound like they are working. Nice song including the chorus, strong bass and guitars all the way through.
‘London in the summer time, cuss me out and it’ll feel all right’
10. I Like Dirt An interesting title, which comprises the chorus as well and a very good song though. Upbeat and up tempo which has a really good feel to it. Simple song that has a great feel to it and nice and easy to listen to.
‘I Like dirt, I like dirt’
11. This Velvet Glove Another soft and acoustic introduction the verses are generally quiet though still have an electric guitar overlay on them. The chorus picks up a with a quicker sound and a great contrast. Overall a quality song both with music and lyrics.
‘Your solar eyes are like nothing I have ever seen’
12. Savior Strange song this, broken up with a bit of a twist on the vocals. There is a sort of second part to this song as it changes tone a bit and gets lighter about halfway through but the chorus is more vocal and not a bad song though not my favourite.
‘Dusting off your savior forgiving any behavior’
13. Purple Stain Another strong funk sound to the track, great bass playing and sounds great. Especially good on the catchy chorus, and again this song plays on the morals of Hollywood with the line ‘knock on wood we all stay good, cause we all live in Hollywood’
‘It’s way out there, but I don’t care, cause this is what I want to wear’
14. Right on Time Short but sweet song and one of my favourites overall, and a good song towards the end of the album. More rock style from them and this is another great quality song. Like ‘Purple Stain’ a catchy song.
‘Plain and simple pain, I want to but I cant complain’
15.Road Trippin’ Nice end to the album, smooth and relaxing with another acoustic number. Nice vocals and though not one of the most memorable songs on the album a nice touch to finish a good album.
‘Road trippin’ with my favourite allies, fully loaded we got snacks and supplies’
Overall this has some great moments, full of some great bass and other guitars smooth vocals and some well-written lyrics. A great sound and I recommend this to people who may be into this style of funk rock. Great album.
Advantages: Californication, Otherside, Scar Tissue Disadvantages: Right on Time
From the monumental, original sophomore effort ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’ in 1991 to today’s ‘By The Way’ it has been a decade full of experimentation, energy, and brilliant musicianship for a Los Angeles quartet. Starting with competitors like ‘Rage Against the Machine’ their Rap-Rock mixed music has survived enough to compete with Today’s bands like ‘Limp Bizkit’, ‘Linkin Park’. ... ...album, all changed in 1999 with the release of ‘Californication’. The pillar of nineties was growing old but maturing in a true musical sense. Honestly I think their rap-rock mixture, lyrical structure matched anyhow to intense, exploding, brilliance of ‘Rage Against The Machine (RATM)’. (For those who don’t know Rage Against the Machine, remember track ‘Wake Up’ in Matrix movie played at the end when Neo ...

...and growing. The release of Californication was greatly praised by most music critics all around the World, and fans were going crazy with live performances. The answer was "By The Way", the album that was produced too quickly, but still got some good reviews. The reason for their success, is that they appeal to almost everyone. ...range of musical styles. Californication sees the return of John Frusciante to the groups line up, which is no bad thing as he was involved in the bands most successful album Blood Sugar Sex Magik which contained the magnificent Under The Bridge, recently covered by none other than All Saints. I had not really considered buying the album when it came out but have been consistently impressed by the singles that have been released from it and decided ... ...Californication is definitely a return to form for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, an eclectic (had to say it) mix of rap metal, anthemesque rock and of course innovative pop. At the heart of most of the songs are the tremendous riffs and solos of Frusciante’s guitar underpinned by Flea’s powerful bass and Chad Smith’s drums. All this is complemented by Anthony Kiedis distinctive and melodious vocals and some imaginative lyrics.

...title track of the album Californication is another slow acoustic track. 'Its understood that Hollywood sells Californication'. I believe that indicates that this is another track about the big marketing of Hollywood.
Easily is another rockin song. The lyrics in this track deal with the temptations of life. 'Easily, lets get carted away'.
I don’t even want to think about what Porcelain is about. This is the softest song I have ever heard ... ...sock-on-cock days, the band's surreal, dream-like verses on the title track and the great "Easily" reveal how peculiar and completely original the band's song writing style has become. Californication doesn't necessarily mark a redefinition of the band's sound, but it is defiantly worth listening to for any log-term peppers fans! ...

Advantages: A great mix of genres and good value - fifteen tracks Disadvantages: Too much place names and stuff, plus often very similar songs
...shall (hopefully) stay. Californication is a fine example of the band's talent. However, one thing, one single thing that annoys me intensely about this CD is the lyrics. Although often very inspired and thought-provoking, most of them have something to do with places, and place names. Yep, nearly every track has a mention of a country, or a US State, or a continent… I'm not sure why, but it does get irritating. I advise you don’t let ... ...whole. Any good? I'll say. Californication is one of the best purchases I've made in ages. It's the perfect album for new RCHP fans, or even those who have escaped HearSay in the pop world and aren't familiar with modern rock. Reviews which might be of interest for "Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers"
Advantages: Different types of music (e.g pop, rock, rap) Disadvantages: Bit too much rap
The RedHotChiliPeppers have recorded numerous albums but Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic has to be one of the best yet. It's more rap than Californication but also has some brilliantly sung and played mellow songs such as "I could have lied". It has more swearing than Californication but isn't so boppy. The RedHotChiliPeppers are a mixture of pop, rock, rap, punk and alternitive so all the different types of songs are on the album. But the main song and probably the best is Under The Bridge which is about his heroine addiction, though All Saints stole it (without permission) and sung about how they love a city, and it's really shallow, yet the RedHotChiliPeppers version was deep and didn't actually mean that they loved the city! I would say that this album and Californication are equal in thier own ways. It's a good album if you like ...
One Hot Minute is in my opinion the worst album produced by the RedHotChiliPeppers. It features Dave Navvaro as the guitarist replacing John Frusciante, which I believe affected the band, worsening their music. Fortunately, John returned for the band's next album, Californication, which is probably tied with Blood Sugar Sex Magik for the greatest RedHotChiliPepper's album.
One Hot Minute features no songs at all which stand out for me, this is the only RedHotChiliPepper's album in which I find this is the case. In fact, there are a few songs in the album such as Aeroplane which I simply don't like at all. One Hot Minute is the type of album that goes in the 'to forget' category, if there's a RedHotChiliPepper's album you don't want to listen to, I think it's this one. The group just didn't work. ...
Advantages: Great beats to the song Disadvantages: More earlier style Chilis music
I was a new comer to the music of the RedHotChiliPeppers and had enjoyed their albums Californication and One hot Minute because of their rock type music.I bought this album expecting similar music and was surprised to say the least. The album , released in 1985 , contains a more funky style of music which although different from their other music I still enjoyed.Anthony Kiedis again has used his unique ability to make this album another classic in the chils long list. All the songs have a great beat and although some tracks are not as memorable as their more modern tunes they are still excellent to listen to.Buy this album because it is great , but dont go looking for another californication , its a totally different styley! ...

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Anthony Kiedis (vocals); John Frusciante (guitar); Flea (bass); Chad Smith (drums). Additional personnel: Patrick Warren (Chamberlin organ); Greg Kurstin (keyboards). Engineers include: Jim Scott, John Sorenson, Greg Fidelman. "Scar Tissue" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. CALIFORNICATION was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Scar Tissue" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Californication" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and for Best Rock Song. CALIFORNICATION finds The Red Hot Chili Peppers once again in the more straightforward punk-funk mode of BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK. This return to their original sound also marks the return of prodigal son John Frusciante, who takes over for his replacement, Dave Navarro. The Chili Peppers fill CALIFORNICATION with material shaped by personal and professional turmoil, resulting in a somewhat more sensitive approach than one might expected from a band whose hard-core following are skate-punks and drunken frat-boys. Songs such as "Otherside," "Scar Tissue" and "This Velvet Glove" overflow with background harmonies, while Frusciante's unadorned guitar provides support for Anthony Kiedis' emotive singing and broken-hearted lyrics. The title track is one of the most impressive songs this quartet has written--It tells a tale of wandering souls who've lost their way searching for the American Dream in California. This sensitive showing does nothing to undermine the Chili Pepper's trademark aggressive musical style. If anything, their playing has gotten tighter--as evidenced by the chicken-scratch funk of "Get On Top" and the scat-sung approach of "I Like Dirt." The most impressive anomaly on CALIFORNICATION is "Savior," an ethereal track that finds Frusciante playing with a tone reminiscent of early Peter Green.
