Who would have believed that the Chilli Peppers would release a number 1 album the world over 5 years ago? Compared to the success of Calfiornication, One Hot Minute was mediocre at best. Currently there have been five singles released from the album, and the band seemed to have hit the sweet spot between Rock, Funk, Rap and melodic song writing. A whole different approach was taken in recording the album, no huge studio and dozens of engineers, just an old recording system with the majority of the tracks sounding in Mono. All these components combined give the album a unique sound that I doubt will age as it really doesn’t make use of the technologies that define this point in time. Easily one of the best albums of the past few years. My person favourites are The Otherside and Californication purely for the subtle approach to song writing and understating that makes the music lift above being a mere song.
