...When I was watching Pan's Labyrinth, I have to say that I was so enamoured by its artistic beauty and integrity, that I was unaware, or at least to say I did not fully appreciate, that which would become my favourite film soundtrack ever. I do not even suppose that not noticing the score which accompanied Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece is necessarily a bad thing - it simply pays testament to how well the film was crafted. Now, enough of my inane and bias opinions of this - on with some objective commentaries. The job of capturing the essence of Pan's Labyrinth musically was given to Acadamey-Award nominated composer Javier Navarette. He is a relatively unknown individual, though he has collaborated with Del Toro in the past with the 'Devil's Backbone' of which I was not as impressed with. However, he has really put himself... Advantages: The better tracks outweigh the average ones
Disadvantages: Not many but some fillers

...For what this cd is worth its good value for money, some little gems on this disc. Sometimes you buy soundtracks to find little known tracks that will never be released you can nod along to, Blue Streak has quite a few of these and i was well pleased with this purchase. Only seen the film once but rate the soundtrack higher Girls Best Friend - Jay Z. A simple layed beat by Swizz Beats opens up the album with Jay Z hitting all the right notes, kind of. Single released with video, not his best but not a bad track Criminal Mind - Tyrese & Heavy D. Good track, catchy chorus. A good up tempo follow up to the Jay Z track Damn - So Plush & Ja Rule. Tune. Great track. Production by Darkchild hits the right spots, Ja Rule early raps leads you up the garden path and into a chorus filled with simple lyrics and sweet voices. Theres something... Advantages: Brilliant electronic music
Disadvantages: quite strange

...Rephlexions (various artists) is the next installment of compilation albums on the Rephlex record label. It features another set of tracks by the key players on the label and is equally as good as the first compilation (Braindance (various artists)) The sounds are spaced out emotional and very original explorations of electronia. The CD kicks off with some mellow keys on which glitchy drum and bass future breaks are laid on top. The second tracks goes straight into a gentle industrial clanking atmosphere where a glimmering machine sits in a castle basement, blue light floods through the window in the middle of the night, the machine gets more energy as the track progresses.All the tracks seem to have concepts behind them waiting to be discovered.
