...Nothing could have prepared me for Musica Alhambra.
I am very aware of JuanMartin's discography. From 1981 to this present day he has released a string of intricate albums, most of these being extremely traditional. JuanMartin has explored many Flamenco styles, especially in his Andalucian Suites I-IV (same year actually) where he covers Rumba, Tarantas, Tangos, Alegrias, Bulerias and even contemporary Milonga.
Musica Alhambra came out in 1998. It is clear to me that JuanMartin plays Zambra, a form of arab influenced flammenco, to perfection. With Musica Alhambra, he goes even further. With this piece of work we undertake a wonderful journey accross a 12th Century Andalucia. ...Geri just can't not release fantastic records!!! Mi Chico Latino, her second single relase and first number one is no exception. The song was one of the highlights of 1999's Latino craze. It is smooth, summery and sexy, especially Geri's Spanish poetry in the middle! The video is also a beautiful piece of camerawork - Geri looks gorgeous and the underwater shots are absolutely amazing and it captures the spirit of the song so well! The B-sides were the best B-sides i had heard up to that date - they should have been included on the album. G.A.Y., her song for the club of the same name, is a fantastic piece of disco fever - can you resist it? Then Summertime is the perfect tonic, beautiful and haunting in it's own strange way, especially Geri's Cerys (Catatonia) impression at the end! This is one of the best singles ever released for song...

Advantages: every song Disadvantages: takes a few listens
...After hearing the lead single from 'La Vida... Es Un Ratico', 'Me Enamora' I was glad to see Juanes back, but was distinctly unimpressed. I wanted to hear something new from one of my favourite artists but instead I had a typical (if not also catchy and well written) love song with guitar riffs and solos very similar to those heard on 'La Camisa Negra' and (albeit one of my favourite Juanes songs), A Dios Le Pido. But I semi-reluctantly bought this album and did not regret it, certainly after a few listens. There is not a single dud or filler on the album, possibly a first for a Juanes album and in that respect surpassing my favourite Juanes album, the multi-award winning Un Día Normal. From beautiful ballads such as the title track and the collaboration with Argentina's Andrés Calamaro (another great artist), Minas Pierdas, to more...
