Though neither spoke the other's language, the recording proves that some sort of deeper, more fundamental communication was going on. TALKING TIMBUKTU was originally released on 29 March, 1994, and holds the distinction of being the longest-running #1 album in the history of Billboard Magazine's world music charts. Not only did the album debut at #1 (the first ever to do so), but it maintained a stranglehold on the top slot for 32 consecutive weeks. And in 1995, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences recognized what the rest of us already knew and named it the Best World Music Album of the year (the second in a row for the multi-talented Cooder, incidentally).... ...Between 1988- 1992 Australian Pop singer Kylie Minogue notched up a series of U.K and Australian Top 10 smash hits (4 of those going to No.1 in the U.K) on the PWL record label under the guidance of Stock, Aikten And Waterman. However in 1993 she fled from the label and completely re-invented herself signing to the dance record label, Deconstruction. In mid 1994 Kylie Minogue returned to the U.K charts with the startling, hauntingly atmospheric Confide In Me, which still stands as one of her most compelling recordings. Kylies vocal delivery had clearly improved since the days of I Should Be So Lucky and now had a unique and distinct sound of her own going on.
