If you love Abba, Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep then this is the film for you.
Mama Mia the undoubted hit of 2008, is a stage-to-film adaptation of the 1999 West End musical of the same name, based on the songs of successful pop group ABBA, with additional music also composed by ABBA member Benny Andersson. The film did very well at the box office becoming the highest grossing film musical of all time and also became the most successful British film ever in United Kingdom.
I did like this film although I did not go crazy over it like a lot of people did, I heard stories of big groups of people going to the cinema and all singing along to the movie, no, not me, but I did like it.
With any type of musical film you wonder how they are going to link the songs to the story because sometimes you get films that have a story and then ...

After going to see this film at the cinema twice I decided that I wanted it for christmas on dvd so I was over the moon when I got it.
It is about a girl (Amanda Seyfried) who is getting married. She has never really known who her father is and after discovering her Mum's old diary invites three possible fathers to her wedding, without her mum (Meryl Streep) knowing. Her mum soon finds out though and it then follows the tale of her trying to find out which of the three is her father.
What I like about the film Mamma Mia is that it is fun packed full of singing and dancing and the cast are fantastic and there seems to be really good chemistry between them. Julie Walters is quite funny in it and Meryl Streep is quite good with the singing and all the cast play their roles really well. The only downside has to be Pierce Brosnan ...

Advantages: Absolutely amazing Disadvantages: no major ones
Mamma mia is by far my favourite movie of the summer this year! Based upon the songs of ABBA it is one of those films which can be enjoyed by a wide span of ages. My mother loves it, i love it despite the fact i never really grew up with the songs and even the 7 year old i nanny for cant stop watching it! I watched the stage show when i was younger and never really enjoyed it so the movie was a surprising love of mine!
It tells the story of a 20 year old girl called Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried (think Mean Girls). Sophie is engaged to Sky played by Dominic Cooper. The one problem is that Sophie wants to find her father before she gets married, so upon discovery of her mother's diary she sends out three letters to three possible fathers asking them to attend her wedding.
