...The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was founded by Ray McVay in the 80's . This was done after talks with the Glenn Miller Estate, who had listened to many of Ray McVay's tracks.
Who is Ray McVay?
Ray McVay was born in the late 30's in Scotland. He became a professional musician at the tender age of 13 as a rocking sax player. In the 50's he became a music director for many big names such as Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty and Billy Fury.
As Rays name got bigger and better known in the music industry, and fronted his own show band known as the Ray McVay Orchestra. He started to play for the Mecca Organization playing around the country before headlining at Mecca's big venue, the Lyceum Ballroom in London's west end.. Advantages: Bewitching performances from Thibaudet, ECO, et al., of Marianelli's gorgeous music, inspired by LvB. Disadvantages: Too short! I want more!
...of this public ball, we are given 'Another Dance', the stately music that attends the stricter social affair at Mr Bingley's Netherfield home. In the third 'dance' track, conductor Benjamin Wallfisch seems to be cracking a whip above the heads of his players whilst urging them to go 'Faster, faster, faster!' They oblige and 'Can't Slow Down' (on track 14).
On the brisk and buoyant 'The Militia Marches In' (played by the English Chamber Orchestra's...fife-and-drum corps?), the only things missing are the silly giggles of Lizzy's two youngest sisters, Lydia and Kitty, while gawking at the handsome redcoats making their entrance into Meryton. This will get you marking time, too.

I'm going to review a CD of one of my favourite artists, the great Jools Holland. I'm sure all of you have heard of him somehow, as he has got himself everywhere at all times of the year; Later with Jools Holland, the Hootenanny at New Year, he was in the band Squeeze, and he did radio work, and countless gigs with his band, The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. And it's the CD he did with them that I'm going to review! And it costs £11.99 if you're buying it new from www.amazon.co.uk, but you can get it for as little for £4 second hand!
