Advantages: A few really stand out tracks Disadvantages: Some are a bit long, some are very experimental
This album from Kraftwerk is a bit of an odd beast. It contains many of their best known tracks and could be classed as a best-of, however the tracks have been re-recorded and are not the same as those on the original albums.
Each track contains an inhumane feeling and a clinical feel, leaving the listener feeling almost cold. Although this sounds bad, it is certainly unusual to listen to and I would recommend trying this album to anyone who has never listened to Kraftwerk before. Previous Kraftwerk fans may prefer to leave this album alone.
There are a few stand out tracks on this and Robots, Musique Non Stop and Radioactivity are some that stand out in my mind.
On the unusual front, Pocket Calculator has the most bizarre lyrics that are almost unbelievable to hear. Metal on Metal has the most unusual sound I have ever heard ...
Advantages: Wonderful piece of work Disadvantages: None really
It was in 1974 that Kraftwerk really established their own personal musical style and also came to wide public notice through the hit single Autobahn, taken from the album of the same name.
Produced by Hutter and Schneider at Connie Plank?s studio, Autobahn marked the addition to the group of Klaud Roeder (violin and guitar) and Wolfgang Flur on electronic percussion. Rather like 1973?s Tubular Bells, this was one of those rare records which seemed to be accepted by easy listening, AOR and more progressive audiences alike.
Most of all, though, Autobahn?s title track, like Bowie?s Young Americans, appealed to the growing disco market - Wolfgang and Ralf were habitual disco goers. Kraftwerk had pulled off a trick that has never been equalled or imitated yet - to make synthetic and obviously synthetic percussion sound warm ...
Germany doesn't produce much in the way of music but Kraftwerk is a one of gem. They were the one of the first bands to use electronic equipment to produce music. A late 1970s band which had one big hit. Autobahn. It is totally electronic and some German phrases. It is well worth a listen. They have went on to become a sucessful band attracting a large audience. Knowing some German is preferable but not necessary to really enjoy thier music. They definitley changed music and how it has been produced. They went against all the rules, ignored instruments and made extremely catchy tunes. ...
