Enya was a member of the Irish band Clannad from 1980 until she decided to go solo in 1982. Apart from the soundtrack to the obscure 1985 film 'The Frog Prince' for which she contributed a few short instrumental pieces, this is Enya's first truly solo work. Enya's debut album, originally released in 1987 as a soundtrack to The Celts TV series, is a real gem. Often overlooked this CD contains some enjoyable material. Although maybe not quite up to the standard of her later material, and at 21 years old is starting to sound a little dated, there is still much to enjoy here for true Enya fans. For me the standout track is definately Triad. Three short pieces joined to form one long song celebrating three historical Irish figures. Other tracks I enjoy on this album are The Celts, I Want Tomorrow (with a bizarre electric guitar solo half way through), Fairytale, March of the Celts and Boadicea. This album laid the foundations for a hugely succesful career and let us know just how talented she is. Die hard Enya fans will know that there is actually two versions of this album available. The original BBC Records release from 1987 featuring a black and white photo of Enya on the front and the 1992 re-release featuring much more colourful album art. The only difference between the two is that track 11 is slightly longer on the rerelease. This album does have a very different sound compared to Enya's later work so if you are just getting into Enya may recommend some of her later albums.

Advantages: If you can get into Enya, then this is in my opinion the best of her 5 albums and is a very passionate and romantic album, which is great with a glass of wine, candles, nice food, an open fire, followed by........... Disadvantages: There is none and I challange anyone to argue with me, ok!!!
