Advantages: Very heavy progressive rock with music that moves you Disadvantages: Not all songs are up to dream theater standard

It combines all the ethics of a good rock song along with a strong sense of originality and a real passion for music. But what else is good about the album apart from the first track. Well how about the rest of the tracks are all live recordings from the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. This gives you a unique opportunity to get really know the band, by letting you hear them play covers and their own music live. And it is a good quality recording ... more
I have been a fan of Dream theater for a very long time and over the years I have grown to love their music and respect the band more and more. But I wondered why none of my friends had heard of the band. Sure enough though they have heard of great guitarists such as Steve Vai, Satriani and John Petrucci on the legendary G3 tour. Little do they know though that he is the guitarist for dream theatre, and only makes up 1 fifth of a band of equally talented musicians. So with a band so good, why are they so little known? It could be because they don’t conform to mainstream. Although clichéd this may be the reason.

The 18 odd minute long first track is something of a masterpiece. It combines all the ethics of a good rock song along with a strong sense of originality and a real passion for music. The technical level of instruments the band have managed to reach makes you feel as though Petrucci really could do anything with a guitar or that Mike Portnoys drum sticks are just an extension of his hand. The track covers so many types of rock music (hence the name change of seasons) and keeps you held to the song right up until the end.
But what else is good about the album apart from the first track. Well how about the rest of the tracks are all live recordings from the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. This gives you a unique opportunity to get really know the band, by letting you hear them play covers and their own music live. And it is a good quality recording promising even more enjoyment from an album that should put you back more than ten pounds.
Advantages: Great first track, a refreshing change from prog Disadvantages: Can get slow and boring, mainly covers.
...with normal track times (A Change Of Seasons only has 5 tracks, the first of which is about 23 minutes long, and 2 other tracks which are about 10)
Tracks:
The first track is in seven parts, as it is very long. Each part has a name, which is given below:
i) The crimson sunrise
ii) Innocence
iii) Carpe diem
iv) The darkest of winters
v) Another world
vi) The inevitable summer
vii) The crimson sunset
Note, tracks 2 - 5 were recorded live ... ...change of seasons
The best track on the album. Nearly 25 minutes long, this is an excellent example of prog metal, despite the fact that it's nearly 10 years old now. The introductory riff is extremely catchy, and the breaks inbetween sections give the piece a sense of direction.
2. Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
Originally by Elton John, Dream Theater have covered this extremely well. The keyboard sections are fantastic, and the guitar ...
