They really don't write them likeChanging Horsesany more. "Big Ted's dead, he was a great ... more
old pig", sings Robin Williamson, "he'd eat most anything, never wore a wig". Although the Incredible String Band had always been delightfully ramshackle, 1969'sChanging Horsesfound the innovative 1960s folk-rock duo of Williamson and his mate Mike Heron becoming almost a slipshod stoned parody of themselves, assisted by their girlfriends Rose and Licorice. Of the six tracks, two ramble over 14 minutes each, so that even the inclusion of such exotic instruments as sarang, gimbiri, Chinese banjo and the inevitable sitar fail to maintain much interest. Bob Dylan's "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" had no doubt convinced them that quarter-of-an-hour wasn't too long to bang on about "messengers with sharpened heels" and an "amethyst galleon out on the rolling sea, la, la, la, la, la". But it is. While any committed Incredibles fan will hug this to his or her bosom, the casually curious listener might be advised to check out their 1967 classicThe Hangman's Beautiful Daughter.--Johnny Black

Advantages: Excellent backing tracks, competent vocals, a couple of strong pop hits Disadvantages: Not much in the way of soul, some dull tracks, all rather dated now
on the radio. What I didn?t realise at the time was they were formed specifically to cash in on the northern soul market that was so popular in the 70s.
The Pearls
The Pearls were two session singers who had been working steadily since the late 1950s in one of the UK?s first girl bands, the Vernon Girls. Lyn Cornell and Ann Simmons then pursued solo careers with some minor success during the sixties, with Cornell reaching number 30 with a cover version of the song ?Never on a Sunday? in 1960 but they found session work and working as backing singers more lucrative after failed solo singles releases.
In 1972 producer Phil Swern decided he wanted to record a cover version of Martha Reeves & The Vandellas? B-side ?Third Finger Left Hand? to cash in on the song?s popularity on the northern soul scene.
At that time there wasn?t much ...
Advantages: New and different, multiplayer, drums Disadvantages: can be embaressing, no online band world tour
Rock Band is a step in the right direction for any musical gamer. Obviously a move onwards from the Guitar Hero franchise with the inclusion of a drum kit and a microphone. The guitar is practically the same as any of the guitar hero guitars, but with a few tweaks such as the solo buttons which are very difficult to use and aren't really needed. Therefore the guitar isn't really a must have if you already have a guitar hero guitar. However if you don't then get the whole band set as the variety offered by having so many instruments is endless and playing with friends or online is one of the best things about the game. The solo careers are good too with a good tracklist which ranges dramatically and also new downloadable tracks every week in case you get bored of the same tunes over and over again.
The guitar on expert is easier than ...
Advantages: Great Tracks Throughout, In A Different Style To Their Others Disadvantages: A Few More Bonus Tracks Would Have Been Nice
In the album catalogue of The Band, Stage Fright is often seen as their third best album behind their two previous releases, and that is a far assessment, but in my opinion it is an album that is so different from their previous records that it is quite a difficult one to judge against their others. As an album, it has to be one of my favourite albums by The Band to listen to, but then I have always enjoyed the more rock based style that they take on here. And this is what makes this album so different to Music From Big Pink and The Band (The Brown Album), as it doesn?t contain some of their more folk/roots backing, instead moving into more guitar, piano and drums, which isn?t a bad thing, as they are equally as adept at this as they are at the backing used on their previous albums.

Album Notes
The Incredible String Band includes: Robin Williamson, Mike Heron. The Incredible String Band's sixth album was released during the era when putting out two records a year was commonplace. CHANGING HORSES (1969) found the ensemble exhilarated by the speed at which they were evolving. Though founders Robin Williamson and Mike Heron were still doing all the writing, they were now recording and performing as a quartet with the addition of their girlfriends Rose Simpson and Licorice McKenzie. Williamson's "Big Ted" opens the set and finds the band at its most rollicking. Other highlights include the jointly written (a rarity for Williamson and Heron) "Dust Be Diamonds," and the a capella spiritual "Sleepers Awake." "Creation," at 16 minutes in length, was the band's longest piece to date, and foreshadows Williamson's later solo work and story telling.
