This CD has been immensely popular as of late and even reached high into the music charts- not usual for Gregorian chanting I am sure! It's popularity may be due to the fact that it is an immensely relaxing album- the soothing singing of the monks is guaranteed to send one to sleep or just to put one into a state of relaxation. Included in the CD are recordings of the bells of HeiligenKreuz also, but the majority of the album comprises of Gregorian chanting. It may be said that there is not a huge diversity of songs or a great difference between each track. The CD lasts approximately one hour, and it is a great CD to listen to if you want to enjoy a calming hour without wanting a collection of greatly different tracks such as one would get with a modern artist or modern style of music. Much of the CD is requiem and the songs are therefore quite melancholic and subdued, but this is characteristic of Gregorian chant and an inexorable style of chant. ...admit that I've liked Gregorian chant music ever since Ben in Butterflies (70's television programme) used to listen to it (yes, I really am that old!). It's great that Chant Music For Paradise has been released and has done so well in the charts. The cover is a clear indication of how peaceful it is. Advantages: Very professional production Disadvantages: Does not stand out from similar offerings
Not sure what it is about this particular recording that has garnered so many accolades. Yes, it's soothing, pleasant and melodius, but so are most chants , and to my admittedly inexpert ears ,this is no better than similar offerings that often turn up in the 'price reduced' racks of record stores, book and gift shops. An expert in this form of music may well disagree , but I reckon that if you are simply in the market for relaxing sounds, you could ... ...local church . You will often find a good selection of very similar recordings that have not had the benefit of a major recording company to promote them, but they are none the worse for this in terms and content or quality Why plough funds into the cloisters of some far-flung monastery when there are plenty of lovely old churches closer to home that would appreciate a donation to their coffers. ...

...of the music is Gregorian chant and its sung in latin which is something so unique and lovely.It has also been a huge success and you will understand when you listen to it, also great for playing while working around the house , due to it being so soothing and relaxing.
I would most definitely recommend it ...

The product of a religious talent contest, The Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz perform sacred chants and psalms with a variety of settings from the scriptures. Taking in traditional Gregorian chant in a modern and aesthetically sparing style, these men of the cloth aim to relax and de-stress the listener with their soothing voices.
