Advantages: Consistently good songs, with a few great ones Disadvantages: Some poor decisions, especially the hidden song
It seems Oasis are one of those bands who have fallen into the trap of setting standards so high with the early albums, that they subsequently can't meet them, and all their new work is written off as a poor effort. Heathen Chemistry, having been released in 2005, falls perfectly into this category. Upon first release, it didn't measure up to Definitely Maybe or (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, and was, in a way, regarded as a failure because of it.
Is this fair, though? Do people only see it as a weak album because they're comparing it to masterpieces? Personally, I feel if the majority of current bands had released something this good, it would have been the jewel in their crown. It isn't quite perfect, but it certainly deserves a chance.
The Hindu Times - A classic Oasis opener, and one of the albums strongest tracks. Great ...

This is a very upbeat song which if I'm honest is kind of an 'all over the place' kind of song. It's very 'rushing about'. It's one them songs ...
Oasis are back with a bang after two less than spectacular offerings Heathen Chemistry is a step back on course to old and better stuff from the Manchester lads.
Many people will have been looking forward to this album from Oasis. This, their fifth LP coming off the back of some poor works, love lives and new line ups could have had the potential to finish the band off. Two successful singles releases, some great live dates and a number one album later things are starting to look up. This is a much better album with some great tracks and some average tracks. That seems to make it a good effort and gives a chance that this is a new start for the band and better stuff is to come. Some of the tracks such as (Probably) All in the Mind, Born on a Different Cloud and Songbird are all great songs and there are no really bad efforts ...

Album Notes
After the 18-minute single, "Year of the Pig," which eloquently spoke for the often voiceless Canadian sex workers, fans had no idea what to expect from Toronto's most adventurous punk band. THE CHEMISTRY OF COMMON LIFE is often bruising, but as much for its quiet moments as its heavy ones. Singer Pink Eyes has retained his blustering, gruff voice, but the music surrounding him is more subtle and shaded, borrowing equally from artier acts like Sonic Youth and the blunt force of Black Flag. "Crooked Head" and "No Epiphany" arrive on waves of feedback and frothy washes of keening guitar, but sturdy tracks like "Black Albino Bones" and "Days of Last" stomp and rumble with pure vintage hardcore strength. The album's closing title track, clocking in at around seven minutes, puts it all together seamlessly.
Album Reviews
Alternative Press (p.156) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "Opening number 'Son The Father' sets the pace with a blistering chorus....[They] are still an unmistakably hardcore band at heart..."
