Chi Mi'n Geamhradh (I See Winter) - Catherine-Ann Macphee

Advantages: Original lyrics, great beats

...In case you were wondering Don Chi Chi is what this, rapper/producer/superstar likes to call himself. Chi Chi refers to Chi Town (Chicago) which is his home city. In a nutshell this guy is the less famous, but in my opinion more credible equivalent to Puff Daddy. He has produced tracks for the likes of Destiny's Child, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill and Mariah Carey plus many more and is now showing that he is pretty nifty with the mic in his own hands. This album is pretty heavy R'n'B verging on Hip Hop in some instances such as "Protectors of 1472." This album is full of great tracks and lots of collaborations with either artists he has helped to the top who want to return the favour, or who he has hooked up with later in their careers who respect and admire what he has done. Advantages: good variety of tracks
Disadvantages: entirely in Spanish

...Mi Tierra sees Gloria going back to her latino roots as all the tracks on the album are sung entirely in Spanish. It's surprisingly good - much better than a lot of her Englush language offerings. There is the usual mix of salsa, merengue and slow ballads, all of which have their own charm and conjure up images of the "mi land" of the title - Cuba. My favourite of all the tracks has to be the ballad "Con los Anos que me quedan" (with the years I have left) which has a beautiful melody and even lovlier lyrics. The more up tempo numbers would be perfect to get everyody into the party mood - especially if the rum and tequila are flowing! An enjoyable album, but helps if you understand Spanish....
