I loved every minute of this album.
The songs are so catchy and incredibly brilliant! I can definitely see why it won a Grammy in 2004 for the best compilation soundtrack album.

Set in the roaring 1920's; it is a kiss and tell type story of a nightclub singer / dancer (ROXY HART) who ends up being sent to prison for killing her lover.
The other main character is Velma Kelly who is also a muderer.
Billy Flynn is a lawyer who is desperate to get them out of jail and manages to do so through the help of the press! Making both Velma and Roxy stars!
Apart from the opening number of All that Jazz, which I defy anyone to say that can't enjoy a good sing song to, Cell Block Tango - is my favourite song. I think it has so much drama to the song and you also get to find out a little bit about the individual characters and the reasons for them being in the womens prison. Mostly due to the fact that they are all man haters - but then most of this is down to the fact that the men in their lives have all been bad to them!
Mr Cellophane is one of those curiously funny but also tragic songs where you end up feeling quite sorry for the character by the end of the lyrics. The charachter singing the song talks about how they might just aswell disappear as no-one seems to notice him anyway, he's always there for everyone else when they need him but who is there basically for him when he needs someone - no-one because they don't really know he exists! Here for example is what I mean the chorus lyrics are :-
"Cellophane, Mister cellophane Should have been my name !!!! Mister cellophane 'cause you can look right through me Walk right by me And never know I'm there! I tell ya Cellophane Mister cellophane Should have been my name Mister cellophane 'cause you can look right through me walk right by me And never know I'm there. . . "
Quite sad really. Alls well that ends well though - as I say Valma and Roxy end up being big stars!
It is a fantatstic CD to listen t and even if you have never seen the film or watched the stage show - (something I would recommend you to do anyway as both are great!) - you have only got to listen to the CD all the way through to know what the story is about .....
