Chicken Shed Album, The (30th Anniversary) - Various Artists

Advantages: Contains a vast diversity of music from David Coverdale's post Deep Purple carrier
Disadvantages: Nothing, unless you hate Whitesnake (and if you did you wouldn't be reading this)

...Whitesnakes 30th Anniversary Collection appears to be a glorified greatest hit album. However it's more than this. Its 52 tracks contain live tracks, the original version of Here I Go Again, songs from David Coverdale's (DC's) album with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and of course songs from DC's solo work. The three CD's cover the carrier of DC after he left Deep Purple. The first disc with tracks like Ready An' Willing and Fool For Your Loving (live) brings Whitesnakes blues element through to the listener beautifully. I would say the first disc is best of Whitesnakes blues. The second CD contains the Coverdale Page songs as well as more live songs and a collection of Whitesnake hits. Advantages: Extra tracks - A Must for Collectors

...Whilst I realise that these early Bowie album re-issues are mainly playing on the enthusiast's aim for completeness, this is one of the better, in my opinion. I am, admittedly, a big fan of the Duke, and as such am interested in the Arnold Corns versions on the second disc (especially as I hadn't really heard of them until the Bowie at the Beeb BBC sessions release). My main reason for this purchase (as I already owned the single CD version) was the track Velvet Goldmine, of which I hadn't got a copy. The demo versions of Lady and Ziggy Stardust are interesting but John, I'm Only Dancing and The Supermen seem to be simply fillers. To a certain extent this is true of Round and Round and Holy Holy, but I'm not sure they are otherwise in CD format, so I can see the appeal. Advantages: Varied popular songs plus some obscure ones
Disadvantages: The obscure songs are probably not to everyones taste

...This is the second CD I have brought from this series, I find these CD's a general overview of the years music relating to well known tracks to some that are unknown to me. This therefore make is a very good album to listen to as you know what you are getting from some of the songs. artists like Sterophonics, Muse, Athlete, The Libertines and so on are well known and will appeal to the majority. There are however some more obscure songs bands like Client, Bees, which although are not to bad for my taste they may not appeal to everyone. On the whole I have found this to be a good album in my collection and one that I will listen to if I can not make up my mind. If you like the main popular songs on this album then I would recommend to have this in your collection.... Read review
