compilation in and as such albums go,Ibiza Chillout Sessionfrom the Ministry of Sound is a fitting way to end the season. No one could be faulted for asking how this differs from either of the massiveChillout Sessions Vol 1orVol 2but there is a distinctive difference. The best way of describing it would be a mainstream response to such series as Café Del Mar or Buddha Bar with more world influenced dance tracks thrown in with gentle mixes of club favourites. Afterlife mixes pop up on a number of occasions with the most extreme being a trippy interpretation of Roger Sanchez's "Another Chance" that is awash with synth, strings andtabla. Straight-up downbeat tracks like Groove Armada's "At The River" and I Monster's "Daydream" sit well amidst the world and folk influenced Nitin Sawhney ("Sunset") and Los Chicharrons ("Summer Fling"). Disc two brings the more eclectic past masters like The Orb who were making whacked-out space instrumentals before the term "Chillout" was even invented. To scan through the track listing, the one bound to catch any eye would be Simply Red's "Thrill Me" presented in an ambient mix which (although still worth a skip on the CD player) isn't nearly so bad or out of place as it may sound. Again, a great compilation from Ministry who know what they're doing with this kind of thing but with space on the chillout market growing smaller by the day, a follow-up volume might just be overkill. --Georgina Collins

Guides,Trance Nations,Annualsand the like, Ministry Of Sound took a step away from the dancefloor with its first major chillout compilationThe Chillout Session. And as with their more uptempo assortments, the quality of the tracks is superlative. From the subtle downtempo beats and pieces of Jakatta's "American Dream" to the Ibizan sunset vibes of York's "The Awakening" to horizontal classics like Lemon Jelly's "In The Bath" and Leftfield's "Melt", you can almost picture the lava lamp steadily bubbling away in the corner of the room. It's not all instrumental tracks, either, Alex Gopher's "The Child" and Fatboy Slim and Macy Gray's collaboration on "Demons" both pop up to add a little bit of late-night soul. The only problem is who gets up to put the second CD on... --Helen Marquis

Advantages: Everything; up there with the best of them Disadvantages: You have to change disc!
I bought this in 2006 for £5. This is one seriously chilled album, featuring many unheard of artists. It has 30 tracks in total. The design is simple, the packaging minimal.
There is over 2 hours of tunes on here. I would compare this to Red Jerry's "Deep and Chilled Euphoria" from 2001. The tracks on here are more recent, one of them "Kota" by Bonobo being featured on an O2 advert some years ago. It has happy parts, sad parts and parts that allow you to reflect. "Shake It Loose" by Dolphin Boy takes your mind to another dimension.
"Only Hush" by Nostalgia 77 sounds very underground and shady.
But "Kota" must be one the top tracks, simple and non-mainstream.
All in all a fabulous album! ...
Advantages: Some very relaxing tunes Disadvantages: You don't know what your listening to half the time.
The ChilloutSession from ministry of sound is basically what it says on the box, a laidbackmix of blissfulbeats and chilled out house. Now, don’t get me wrong, you may like this album, but it was far to slow for me. The reason I bought it was because I knew a few of the songs that were on it. I was looking for Euphoric Breakdown, which is another kind of chilled out mix compilation album but the shop I was in didn’t have it, so I opted for this instead. For me, the music played on the CD is just too slow, maybe a bit too chilled and I just couldn’t get to grips with liking it.
There are a few tracks on the CD such as ‘Rob D – Clubbed to death’ that make an excellent track to play in the background of a lazy evening, or when your lying in bed with your eyes shut, other tracks such as ‘Moby ...
difficult to do, especially seen as how I am a hard house type of person. Scanning the songs on the CD, that’s how I like to be introduced to them you see, listen to a bit of each song and then go back and listen fully, I was surprised by the number of big club tunes that appeared, and the quality of the chilled versions. I was delighted to see the song ‘Silence’ By Delerium, as this is one of my favourite songs of the minute and always gets me up onto the dance floor, the remix, by Michael Woods is mind blowing. It will transport you out of yourself, as stupid as you may think that sounds and at the risk of coming across as a bit ‘sad’ I have never heard anything like it before. The voice of Sarah McLachlan shines in this version of the song and you can get lost in her every word.
Every song on this album is ...
