Chris Isaak's Forever Blue is Pure Heartbreak Heaven!

Advantages: perfect music, wonderful lyrics, flawless singing
Disadvantages: somewhat downbeat

While I was watching a country music channel quite a few years back, I was captivated by Chris Isaak's video for "Somebody's Crying". It wasn't just the video that had me interested, although Issak is always very handsome, and he appeared to be very much so during the footage, but rather the song. I have been a fan of Isaak's ever since his work with David Lynch on the "Wild at Heart" Soundtrack. His "Wicked Game" is a pure and haunting classic. It is clearly washed in the songs of yesterday that inspired Isaak, such performers as Roy Orbison and Elvis. Loving "Somebody's Crying", I started looking for the album it would appear on. I found out that it was an album entitled "Forever Blue". Along with expecting and awaiting its release date, I found out the story behind many of the songs that would be featured on the album ...

Singing Barber?

Advantages: A good Tim Burton movie
Disadvantages: Too much singing

Tim Burton is a master of gothic movies. We have also seen he can add musical numbers to his movies in "nightmare before christmas". That being said I was still unsure if he could pull off a live action musical with his usual dark twist. Most know the story of Sweeny Todd or have itleast heard the name. In this version we find Sweeny arriving back in London after being flasly accused of a crime 15 years before. He was known as Ben Barker back then and he was a barber with great skill. He also had a beautiful wife and baby daughte. However the jealous judge Turpin (played by Alan Rickman) wants Barkers wife Lucy to himself and sends him to Australia. When Barker escapes and returns and meets with Mrs Lovett the pie maker (Helena Bohnam Carter - Tim Burtons partner).She tells Barker (now under his alias sweeny todd) that his wife ...

Growing Up with Chris

Advantages: Loveable and good songs
Disadvantages: The album is very limited

, and listening to the album you find many references to his young age, and perhaps this is how he attracts his main audiance. Chris Brown makes 'teenybopper' music (music for teens for those a bit confused) but with that edge his music can get away with being for an older audiance as well. I'm not sure if Run It was just such a huge favourite of mine at the time because I was 16 as well at the time, although it's still a track for me that lives on through the ages. Even its remixes aren't to be scoffed at, although the many remixes do not feature on the album there's a few good ones out there on the internet for you to listen to. This is going to sound sad, but Chris Brown is one of those artists that I found the need to learn about, and it wouldn't take me long to find out about how his birthday is the day following mine.
