Christmas Wishes - Elvis Presley

Advantages: Elvis singing great songs at his peak, backed by sympathetic musicians.
Disadvantages: That the album contains barely half of the many songs recorded at these historic sessions.

...There's an awful lot of Elvis Presley CD's in the racks to tempt new listeners. In fact there's a lot of awful Elvis Presley CD's in those racks, too. But hidden amongst those dreadful movie soundtracks and uninspired live shows from Vegas, there are some truly great albums, of which this is one of the best. Recorded in 1969, this is Presley returning to form after a considerable career slump in recent years. The best-known track here is probably the hit single 'In The Ghetto', a truly moving 'protest song' of sorts, with Elvis delivering a tremendously impassioned vocal. 'Long Black Limousine' is another poigniant parable, about someone who dreams of one day travelling in such a stylish mode of transportation, only to have their wishes fulfilled when they are driven to their final resting place ! Advantages: Early Elvis. A mix of traditional and rock'n'roll Christmas songs.
Disadvantages: Yey another of many Christmas Albums

...For a number of decades, it was the vogue for popular artistes to release a Christmas CD. Stars including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Carpenters, Andy Williams and John Denver (to name but a few) all have al album included in their discography that were released early in their careers and have since been re-mastered. Elvis Presley originally recorded this, his Christmas album, in the summer of 1957 (and yes I have the vinyl). It was digitally re-mastered and released on CD on October 1999. Accordingly, the sound quality of the music is unsurprisingly good. But what about the songs and Elvis’ rendition? It was only Elvis’ fourth album and his style is still relatively new, sincere and rich (sadly qualities that seemed to fade as Elvis’ musical career progressed). ...Elvis Country I’m sitting here at the PC (Ross’ PC) thinking about something to write about and on the stereo beside me Elvis Country is playing. I remember this from when I was young hm! Hm! Two or three years ago. I had the vinyl 33 LP. it had a picture of Elvis as a wee boy and I remember right he was two years old. In the original LP they included a postcard with Elvis and his Mum and Dad, Gladys and Vernon. Now I’m handing this over to Ross to do the technical jargon. The version that I am referring to was released in 2000, and contains all twelve tracks from the original LP plus six other songs that were recorded at the same session.
