Chrome Dreams II (+DVD) - Neil Young

Advantages: Fine for a casual Neil Young listener
Disadvantages: Only tells part of the story

...and Where Is The Highway Tonight? We could probably do without anything from Landing On Water as this has to rank right up with the worst that Neil Young has released. Hippie Dream was arguably the best track and is included here. Overall a mixed bag with a couple of delights. Strange to see who this is aimed out. Ardent fans will probably have most tracks from regular releases and this is a bit of a patchy collection with which to reel in new buyers.... Read review

...I own a dozen Neil Young albums and I have to say the only one I play regularly is this one. I can only deal with so much introspection and whineyness with his more acoustic albums and I am afraid that on a lot of the Crazy Horse stuff when they try to rock out and cut loose they just do not have strong enough riffs or the musical ability to do it with. So if you are looking for a Neil Young album to get the best of both worlds you could do far worse than try this one. Not only is it better produced than many but his voice is not as fragile as it can be. Every song is worth its place even the trivial and humourous penutimate track does not outstay its presence ( it contains the classic line about buying a plastic bag to save a tree Ha Ha). ...of the song. One of my favourite opening tracks, it is a good indicator of whether you'll like the album or not. 9\10 The next track is Harvest itself. Light guitar combines perfectly with Young's high pitched voice, and you have what is possibly the best song on the album. The chorus is really what makes this song, as Neil croons "Did she wake you up, to tell you that, it was only a change of plan, dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup, with the promise of a man". Aside from this line, there are other excellent lyrics, something which I had never really associated him with. One I particularly liked was "Well, I see you give me more than I can take, well I only harvest some". This song is very folky, and I think that's why I like it, as it makes a change to what I normally listen to. 10\10 Next, we reach Neil's extremely sexist... Read review
