One of my favorite songs on this soundtrack is Jude's I Know. There is one phrase in this song that I'd like to coin for myself. It goes: "You've got such a pretty smile, it's a shame the things you hide behind it." It's perfect for people who often attempt hide their troubles or sad memories beneath a happy face.

There are a couple of bluesy tunes that may make you want to get up and dance, which include Eric Clapton's Further On Up The Road and John Lee Hooker's Mama You Got A Daughter.
To end this lovely collection is a collage of New Age songs by Gabriel Yared. They are beautiful and haunting instrumentals that can lead you from feeling uplifted to feeling a bit teary.
All in all, I believe this is a fine mix of music and one that nearly anyone will enjoy.
...told that it was from City of Angels and the song was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. I went out and bought the album the same day!
When I got home and listened to the whole thing there was not a single song which I didnt enjoy. In fact after listening to the soundtrack I went back and bought the film knowing that I would like it. The film is very moving and I would recommend it to anyone. The plot concerns a young doctor Maggie (Meg Ryan) and an Angel ... ...while Maggie is operating on him, she cant see him but he is drawn to her. He decides that being an Angel isnt enough and he falls to Earth to be with her. I wont ruin the film for anyone who hasnt watched it but the consequences are tragic and the soundtrack complements the film perfectly.
The mood of the different songs are varied - There are emotional songs e.g Angel by Sarah McLachlan, I Grieve by Peter Gabriel and I know by Jude.
There are ...

Advantages: Great easy listening music with a touch of folk. Disadvantages: None
I hadn't heard anyone talk about the 'City of Angels' movie until I got the chance to sit down and watch it, and I was an emotional wreck by the end of it.
Just like the movie, you can expect the same quality for the music.
Sarah McLaughlin is great, she's a cross between Vonda Shepard and Paula Cole, simply superb.
Her music will send you into a world of your own and make your mind inhale a deep breathe of relaxation. It's true!
Even her album ...

Advantages: moving music, different styles Disadvantages: none
Even if you didn't like the film, you ll like the soundtrack. On this album is a good variety of different styles, which move you in a number of ways.
Some of the tracks are a modern classical style, whereas some are by contemporary artists such as Alanis Morrisette. In general the soundtrack is very relaxing and not too rock but it isn't all 'classical'. Chances are that if you have seen the film then you will be moved by the soundtrack but even ...

Advantages: A mix of timeless work from the Goo Goo Dolls first 6 albums, fantastic melodies and harmonies Disadvantages: Misses out the big hits
instruments and backing vocals sung by the Goos for their younger selves.
If you have not heard of the Goo Goo Dolls before, here is some vital information! Formed in 1986 Buffalo, New York by guitarist/vocalist Johnny Rzeznik and bassist/vocalist Robby Takac, the Goo Goo Dolls are an American alternative/punk rock band who produced famous big hits, such as "Name" and the soundtrack for City of Angels, "Iris". Originally the band took on a metal/indie, college rock edge backed up with plenty of melodies and harmonies, however after a split with their former drummer, George Tutuska, the band toned down the edge to create their best selling album "Dizzy up the Girl". Their latest album, "Let Love In", released in 2006 marking their 20th anniversary is their largest main stream album to date.
In my opinion Goo Goo Dolls musical writer Johnny ...

Original score composed by Gabriel Yared. Soundtrack compilation producer: Danny Bramson. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. "Iris" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Uninvited" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song, and was nominated for Best Song Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. "City Of Angels" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. In the bittersweet "Angel," Sarah McLachlan croons, "You are pulled from the wreckage of your sudden reverie/You're in the arms of the angel/May you find some comfort here." U2"s "If God Will Send His Angels" asks the question, "If God will send his angels/And if God will send a sign/Where do we go?" The spiritual tone of this soundtrack, laden with angelic images, is set from the beginning, occasionally brought down to earth by bluesy entries like John Lee Hooker's "Mama, You Got a Daughter" and Eric Clapton's "Further On Up the Road." A major part of CITY OF ANGELS' appeal is its inclusion of previously unreleased material from Goo Goo Dolls, Peter Gabriel, and Alanis Morissette, whose "Uninvited" is a riveting, dramatically layered ballad which veers from sweet to edgy and stark.
