An interesting idea; take the Led Zeppelin classic and give it a total make over. Mike Batt says in the cover notes I think it was the absence of the rhythm section which made the album “work”. Nobody could accuse us of trying to emulate Led Zeppelin by recording “Stairway to Heaven” with no bass, guitars or drums in sight’.
Not for me! I wonder whether Messrs Page or Plant would recognise their opus. Even Dolly Parton has made a thundering success (in a totally different way) of this song.
Overall, this album does not quite gel. Interesting enough for a quick listen but it is not destined to be incorporated in more than the most die-hard of collections. It is also...

...The Moody Blues were one of the most successful exponents of symphonic rock. Their Classic 7 lps, released between 1967-1972 established them with a messianic following, particularly in the states, who sought the answers to the universe in the group's lyrics. Musically they developed from using an orchestra in "Days Of Future Passed" to increasingly depending on sounds generated by the mellotron, a keyboard instrument pioneered by the Beatles, which had the capacity to both enrich and alter the other instruments.
By 1972 however the band was exhausted from recording and touring and a decision was taken after the 1973 world tour to take a break.
