Classic FM - Voices

Advantages: Good background listening
Disadvantages: Odd mixture of music on the Uplifting disc

...I will say from the start that I am certainly no expert on classical music. I do often have Classic FM on the radio at home and recently bought their 2 CD set, Voices 2008. This is a compilation containing a selection of vocal pieces from the worlds of choral music and opera. There are pieces in this collection which you would immediately recognise on hearing them, even if their names are not familiar. In the set is a CD of relaxing pieces and a CD of uplifting pieces, so you have the choice of which best suits your mood. The notes which accompany the set are very brief, so here I am adding my own impressions along with information I have found from other sources. Track Listing Relaxing CD 1 Elgar - 'Lux Aeterna'. Advantages: Great songs - wonderful, popular tunes
Disadvantages: A few songs aren't as good as the others

...and colourful with a nice wee picture (cartoon type image) of two people driving in a car. Inside the cover it gives all the usual information that is found inside the cover of a CD and it also gives a little information about each song and sometimes tells you what you should do when driving and listening - it's a bit silly but its there. The CD is really good and is really good value as well - it only cost me £4.97 and in my opinion it was well worth it. This is my first experience with a Classic FM CD and as a result of listening to this one I can't wait to listen to another.... Read review

Advantages: enjoyable
Disadvantages: nothing new

...This is a gorgeously packaged 3 disc set called 'Classic fm at the Movies. It looks wonderful, from the digi-pack cover and slick black iconic silhouettes adorning each side. A look at the track-listing shows that there are some enjoyable tracks here Star Wars, The Mission, The English Patient, Witness, Out of Africa these are all classic, no pun intended, tracks. A few titles jumped out though, titles that I felt were worthy additions to a compilation album; titles like Stage Beauty, Arsène Lupin and Rachel Portman's Oliver Twist. Some thought has clearly been put into this, making it a good collection of very fine film music. Although some track such as gladiator (suite) are poor imitations.
