Paul was making more mature records in his third decade and really let his always roots in true Rhythm and Blues and inspirations from Otis Redding and others flow and to me, this disc encapsulates these influences. One thing that has to be said is that Paul's vocals really come into their own on disc 3. Disc 3 has some true rock anthems on it such as the 1995 classic 'the changingman' - very similar to the ELO hit 10538 overture - which is regarded as a defining moment from this era. The Changingman is many people's favourite - it was released bang in the middle of the Britpop era and became a live classic. It is a definite driving record, crashing guitars, drums and roaring vocals. ...There are a lot of Aerosmith albums out there to buy these days and a worryingly low amount of those are studio albums. There's half a dozen compilations (Greatest Hits, Big Ones, Gems, Young Lust, O Yeah Ultimate Hits, Anthology etc) and almost as many Live collections (Bootleg, Classics Live 1 and 2, Rockin' The Joint) and, with news that the next release from the Boston five piece will be another Best Of with another 'essential' two new songs, it's easy to suggest that the band are past their creative peak. Personally, as a big fan, I hope this is not the case. While it's hard to agree when the bands studio peak was this compilation goes a long way to prove that their live peak was somewhere along the Eat The Rich and Nine Lives tours. ...his tenure with them. My only complaint here is that there is not enough of Arthur on this set. The set on this recording is pretty much one of their greatest hits collections with no real surprises but for a Hawkfan possibly an essential purchase as it is the only official live release with Arthur Brown on it. For someone with a passing interest in the band then it is a worthwhile purchase as a greatest hits collection as it is an official release. For those of you who don't like the band then rather obviously I would not recommend it.
