When Sir Edward Elgar died in 1934 it was generally believed that the symphony commissioned from him by the BBC died with him. It was known that he had written some sketches but that in total they amounted to little of substance. This was odd since a large proportion of these sketches were printed in facsimile in a book on Elgar, written by one of his friends shortly after his death. Advantages: Relaxing, slightly inspiring, beautiful voice. Disadvantages: Very Westernized, samey, rather average compositional style.
While I found this piece, when I was 16 years old and sung it in my school choir, rather inspiring and 'orginal', I unfortunately, 7 years on, cannot see it that way anymore. Of course it has some beautiful melodies and uplifting beats, and the singer certainly has a good voice,but as for being an 'original' piece of music, well... no. It is a very Western take on an idea of something which might, maybe, be slightly 'African' in style, but probably ... ...language but rather a Western take on African sounds, is surely proof of that. Adiemus is a piece of music which would be fine in it's own right, but is actually a rather poor example of us Westerners trying to imitate something that we don't understand, in a rather mediocre fashion. ...

Both produced by Trevor Jones and performed by The London Symphony Orchestra. These two are the only non-lyrical (I’m sure that there is another more technical name for these types of tracks ~ but I don’t know it!!) and can be heard throughout the film on various scenes. And of course the bits where the music reaches the crescendo (wow ~ I wonder if NME wants another writer??) you can guarantee that ... ...Predictable really. Now, I’m really not into Orchestrated music but these two pieces are actually listenable. They are not all violins and flutes, there are also synthesisers and electric guitars. They do however sound very similar in places.
