Advantages: Some really good tracks Disadvantages: Some are "so-so"
...Vintage Jazz Volume 4 is another of my all-time favourite jazz CDs, as it does exactly what it sys on the label, it IE.. it contain some really fine examples of some of the best classic jazz.
ColemanHawkins as his All Star Jam Band, featuring every example of the best jazz instruments, guitar, drums, clarinet, all performing together as one on Honeysuckle Rose. And please note the use of the word "jam" in the name of the band. As they say, there really is nothing new under the sun!
The next track is also by ColemanHawkins and His All Star Jam Band, but is a totally different style of jazz as they give a rip-roaring, jumping version of Sweet Georgia Brown.

Advantages: Some great classic listening! Disadvantages: Brings back sad memories!
...might be forgiven for thinking it’s a pop tune until the guitar strumming kicks in.

This is quite a soulful ballad, starts off slowly with piano and then builds to crescendo for the chorus, great guitar solo in middle of track, great classic track that will never age!

Is This Love, published by Warner/Chappell Music Ltd, produced by Keith Olsen and Mike Stone, performed by Whitesnake back in 1987.
This song takes an age to start but when it does get going you’ll be signing it for days, song has a heavy drumbeat and softer guitar strumming, again, another timeless classic!

Doggin' Around, is another By Royal Appointment tune, this time from the orchestra of Count Basie. A rather lush, full sound, perhaps a little less avant-garde than Duke Ellington?
Out of Nowhere by ColemanHawkins makes use of jazz guitar (many of the jazz bands didn't) but this, combined with the other "traditional" instruments make for a satisfying jazz classic. Eventually Jango Rhinehart, the Gypsy/Roma jazz guitarist would change all that…
Lester Young's Sad Eyes, is a no-nonsense jazz piece, with more than a nod to the Blues. Moving, firm piano, which moves round a central theme, soon joined by the other instruments to show how to make Sad Eyes glad again.
