Advantages: trendy and mixed crowd Disadvantages: small and crowded
The Bairro Alto is definitely the area in Lisbon with the largest number of bars and clubs per square meter. Its narrow cobblestone streets are somewhat quiet during the day, with only a few trendy shops and typical restaurants open, but when it comes to nightlife it really comes to life!
The street are almost always crowded with people wandering from bar to bar, especially at weekends (obviously) but also throughout the week. The centre of all this bustle is constantly changing, but there's always a hotspot that serves as meeting point for all the locals, and I'd say at the moment the "ClubedaEsquina" (or "Corner Club") is exactly that.
There you can find a mixed crowd of people of every nationality, race, social status or sexual preference cohabiting in harmony (aaaaaaahhh...). Of course a couple of drinks probably help, but it ...
Advantages: Nice location, friendly staff, large apartments Disadvantages: Tired, uninspired
When is a hotel not a hotel? When it's an apartment, of course! A normal hotel room is more than adequate for a couple, however, when travelling with another couple, you have a choice (particularly when travelling to Spain or Portugal, it seems) between renting two double or twin rooms in a hotel, or sharing a two bedroom holiday apartment. In September, my husband and I visited Portugal (near Lisbon) with another couple, and chose therefore to stay in a two bedroom apartment at the Clube do Lago in Monte Estoril (near Caiscais, about a half hour cab or train ride from Lisbon). We were there six days and five nights.
As the holiday had been booked through a travel agent, we were met at the airport by a driver, and driven the 40 minutes or so from the airport to the hotel. One of the first things you notice is the cobbled semi ...
Advantages: Looks nice, final chapter is impressive. Disadvantages: Lack of originality, entirely dull for most of running time.
Does Quentin Tarantino actually serve any kind of purpose? This question has been bothering me for a while, largely after the first Kill Bill, a film that annoyed me in a big way. I went into it expecting to enjoy it, and came out bored stupid after seeing two hours and what felt like badly assembled clips from other films. Looking back on his career, his trend is hardly a new one for him. Jackie Brown resembles a ton of 70s crime films. Reservoir Dogs is just a remake of Long hu feng yun, a 1987 Hong Kong film. Pulp Fiction appears to be his only original works, and deserves all of the praise that it gets. It's a stunning film. This aside though, there seems to be little point in what he does. Kill Bill Vol2 is no exception to this rule.
This is the point where I'd usually write a paragraph detailing the plot ...
