...In the midst of the year which saw out the long eighties, and the year which demolished that decades peculiar form of pop-metal, L.A. Guns released Hollywood Vampires to a soon-to-be disinterested public. The year was significant, as was the title; hematophagy sacrificed for firepower when naming the band in 1985. The dark, semi-gothic theme disguised the bands most commercial outing to date, as the Guns sought to build on the success of 1989s Cocked & Loaded, which spawned the massively successful single The Ballad of Jayne. Much like Tracii Guns former band, Guns N Roses, whose bloated double-disc set was only two months from release at the time, Hollywood Vampires simultaneously attempted to distance itself from the already exhausted Sunset Strip scene and embrace its unique relationship with MTV, spawning far too many formulaic... Advantages: Rocks the Ass Of Everything Else
Disadvantages: Painfull Listening for 99% of People

...with loads of guns. Well that was what I was doing as I stomped from Salford to Manchester this morning; it took all my concentration not to shout YEEEHHHAAAWWWW at innocent passers by. Gibby Haynes contributions to the total warpedness are superb: - "Ten Million Ways To Die" is like a warped Barry White groove with blasts of searing white metal noise. Gibby also lends his vocal to a cover of Bauhaus's "Calliente" taking us back to the sound of early 90's Butthole Surfers, again there is a looseness here that is not in Ministry recordings giving it a garagey sound. Jello Biafra contributes his rant "Viagra Culture" to the album and the line "My Weiner Must Win" is simply fantastic. In fact there is not much else you can say about this album other than it is a rockabilly hillbilly puerile industrial romp. The album boarders upon pure noise... Read review

...The definitive Guns n' Roses album. G'N@R's major label debut blew everyone away. Tracks such as Sweet Child O' Mine, Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City became instant classics and Axel Rose, Slash and company joined the echelons of Rock N Rolls great and good. Some of the originators of Cock rock or Hair metal as some call it, alongside the likes of Motley Crue and Van Halen. G'N'R really new how to do it and even today they can still fill an arena and thrill a crowd. This is a must have purchase for any Guns N Roses fan or anyone interested in what great music should really sound like. In fact, every music fan should own this regardless of what they usually listen to.... Read review
