Album Reviews: Down Beat (4/01, p.76) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...His mixture of raw energy and sophistication is as remarkable today as it was when he first put it all on wax..."
Advantages: Its another one to add to the collection and is a nice collection of B-Side songs. Disadvantages: Its a bit pricey for what you get.
...itself is really beautiful little number. It makes you think. Fela's C**k is a up beat instrumental that will have your head nodding to the grooves. Sikamikanico rocks! Its taken from Waynes World (When they're driving along in the Mirth Mobile) and it just blows your mind. Last but not least Search and Destroy. Its a good track and is a cover but I'm not quite sure whom (I think its Iggy Pop).
CD3 the REMIX CD has got 2 different versions of Give it Away and 3 different versions of If you have to Ask. They're not bad but its just a bit weird hearing someone sticking dance beats over the Chili's songs.
To sum things up most of the songs are taken from Blood Sugar... and are actually featured as B-Sides on the singles they released from Blood Sugar..(Give it Away, Under the Bridge etc.) so unless you're a diehard fan it would be up...

...Essential Afroboeat is essential if you are in any way interested in Afrobeat music. The CD sleeve notes bake a somewhat bold claim. "This is Afrobeat: The past, the present and the future. Contributions to this compilation come from all the corners of the Earth, with influences from every culture of the world. Fela said that Africa was "The centre of the world." This compilation has proved him right: Afrobeat is afrian and Africa is at the centre. The contribution of each artist to this compilation is testimony to the fact that Afrobeat is universal."
But are these sleeve notes right? Yeah. I guess they are, pretty much. There's a glittering array of some of the best of the most talented musicians from Africa. There's Fela Kuti himself, with his super-eclectic style, which combines elements of R&B, Reggae, Ska and some hard pushing...

Advantages: Powerful, energetic post grunge hard rock, with moving lyrics Disadvantages: None at the moment.
...I just recently discovered this fantastic band when reading about another artist...but thats another story alltogether. :)
I immediately checked out BB on Youtube, and my first listening experience with them was The Diary Of Jane from this record.
I was captured from the very first minute.
The music is really energetic and vibrant. The lyrics are interesting and the overall performance by the band is outstanding.
As of right now I absolutely can not stop listening to Evil Angel, UnknownSoldier, Had Enough and The Diary Of Jane.
The voice of Benjamin Burnley is tremendously powerful and this record has already become an instant classic in my collection.
So if you are into post grunge hard rock you will most likely be fond of this release.
This record is very well produced and I am going to have to recommend it. :o)...
