genre known as trip-hop with their 1991 masterpiece Blue Lines later went on to craft gorgeous soundtrack music and generally emerge as one of the most forward-thinking, fastidious, and s-l-o-w production teams in pop music. Collected, a best-of compilation straddling the group's career, is the kind of record that reeks "contractual obligation," but that's not meant as a diss. If a kick-ass collection like this is what it takes for this heady group to keep the record execs happy while they slowly hone a new album, so be it. Much of the older tunes sound remarkably contemporary, which isn't surprising when you consider Massive Attack have always mixed styles in radical, new ways. The one new tune included to entice die-hard fans, the slowly percolating and deeply bluesy "Live With Me," is what soul music will sound like in the future. --Mike McGonigal

Advantages: On the limmited edition it has all the music videos on it as well! An excellent touch I think! Disadvantages: The cover is the only downside that I have found, it looks nice now but after time it's going to be a bit scruffy as it's made like a hard back book with no plastic covering.

Collected is a true master piece and one that Massive Attack should be proud of. It pulls together everything they have achieved over the years and pulled it together into one neat little CD. Also just for the added touch they have released a limited edition two disk version which includes all of their videos on CD 2 which I have found to make for an interesting viewing. The first CD includes all their great tracks such as Protection, Teardrop, Unfinished Symphony and Safe from Harm as well as some of their lesser known releases. I had always respected the work of Massive Attack in the past though it wasn't until its release of collected this compilation CD that I had realized just how much they had accomplished. Fantastic stuff and great mind setting music!
Advantages: Great Collecetion of easy listening techno/house classics Disadvantages: Some of the what were classics now sound dated
Massiveattack have undoubtedly broken through many barriers whilst creating their own amazinf form of music attracting many admirers and many imitators, whom never quite manage to acheive the same success. This album demonstrates them at their peak with hit after hit showing their diverse msucial talents and roots. The classic massiveattack anthem unfinsished symphony, everybody has heard and knows this song tops off a fantastic collection of current and past songs. The new song live with me shows that they are not passed their best as they deliver another classic, with a slow groove and an amazing vocal perfromance. There are some amazing vocal performances on this album and they on their own demand listening. However the only place this album falls down are in some of the older tracks, no doubting they are worth a listen but what was ...
Advantages: Probably the forerunners of the trip/hop movement Disadvantages: Should have released their music sooner.
I was 15 when i heard about MassiveAttack for the first time, ever since then i've been hooked on the electo mellow sounds of their music. Largley accredited for starting the Trip/hop movement, influencing bands like Portishead, they grabed my attention purely because of the style of music. Not content with the commercialism of pop music which so dominates modern day music, the striking beats and angelic vocals of various colaborations, spiked a different genre of music. The singles makes up most of MassiveAttacks earlier hits into one outstanding compilation. Every song is different to the next, but what is clear is their evolution of style through the years. The one thing about this band is their evolution, which is evident with their earlier work. A key transformation in their style of music might have been the departure ...
Advantages: Every single thing that is right with music on a CD Disadvantages: Doesn't have every Massive Attack song on it ever made
of Little Britain's Vicky Pollard!!) could be capable of such inescapable viral emotion? WRONG
I very quickkly went out to buy my own copy of Collected, as my mother did not have it, and I only really wanted the best tracks form all her albums, and I was not dissapointed.
It should say enough to any potential buyer that massiveattack are considered such pioneers of production and purveyors of excellent musical ability to appear on an official Music Technology A level examination, to say that listening to this CD has got to be something of a once in a lifetime experience.
Other than 'Teardrop', other particularly memorable tracks include (but are not liited to.. after all.. this is a best of collection!) 'Unfinished Sympathy' and new single 'Live With Me'
I could write on and on about this CD, but truly, the only way forward now, is ...

Album Notes
'Collected' is a compilation that highlights the finest moments of the Bristolian trip-hop pioneers, Massive Attack. Whether on their own or collaborating with artists such as Tricky and Sinead O'Connor, the band have always sought to expand on their atmospheric, dark brand of trip-hop, managing to stay one step ahead of the pack whilst many of their contemporaries have fallen by the wayside. Includes the hits 'Unfinished Sympathy', 'Teardrop' and 'Karmacoma'.
