Advantages: Good collection of songs for those who were fans of the band Disadvantages: Missing a lot of their top singles.
A collection of the greatest songs by Shed seven, the long time workhorses of the Indie-rock / Britpop scene. This album does include a few of their classics such as the student anthems of Speakeasy, Bully boy and the more gentle and catchy Going for gold, as well as including one of my personal favourite songs in the brilliant parallel lines. The problem with this album however is they seem to have failed in their balancing of mixing their best ... ...there are too many of their best songs missing. Very conspicuous in their absence are the great hits Dolphin, On standby and Chasing rainbows which means this album would be better suited to a true fan of the band rather than someone looking for a "best of" album and hoping to hear all of their best hits!
This would be a very good purchase though to relive some of their old days, especially with a reunion tour to come at the end of 2007! Long live ...

Advantages: Plently of great indie anthems Disadvantages: A few weaker tracks - Dolpin '99 and Mark
...A greatest hits collection from the much underrated 90's indie band fronted by Rick Witter. A very good album featuring all of the band's biggest hits.
If you're a fan of Britpop acts like Oasis, Cast, Elastica, Sleeper etc you should definately get this album.
I have never bought any ShedSeven records before this and was surprised at just how many tracks I recognised. There are several great sing-a-long anthems like "Getting Better" and "Going for Gold" as well as reflective ballads like "Ocean Pie".
I would recommend this album over the other compilation of ShedSeven's songs "the collection" as Going for Gold includes the big singles "Chasing Rainbows" and "On Standby" which do not feature on "the collection".
A truely classic Britpop album....

Advantages: Thirteen songs of the highest quality Disadvantages: Nope!
...in Crowded House, that is.
Anyway, my first experience of this album was actually via an ex-girlfriend, who was a massive A-Ha fan and bought it on import. I was blown away when I first heard it, and snapped it up pretty soon afterwards. It was a favourite of last summer, and then slipped away into the lower reaches of my CD collection alongside greats such as ShedSeven and The Supernaturals. Yes, I know, I’ve just lost any final remnants of musical credibility but hey – if you read my op on Wheatus then you should have known what to expect.
Anyway, I ended up writing an op on this album earlier this year, but to be honest it didn’t do it justice; which is why I’ve scrapped it and started again. That, and the fact that the bloody thing has dominated my life for the past three weeks after I rediscovered it, begging...

Advantages: The guitars and drums sound amazing Disadvantages: The vocals in places
...Well to take a bit of a break from ShedSeven and Runrig I decided to pull something a bit heavier out of my collection after seeing Audioslave on MTV2. No not the Audioslave album but an album by Rage Against the Machine who no make up 3/4 of Audioslave. This album was released back in 1996 and is considered to be their poorest album.
The band were an American 4 piece who started out playing in some ones front room in Orange County, California. A good number of RATM (from here on) songs are political protest songs but that shouldn’t put you off as they are quite good as well. As I mentioned 3/4 of Rage are now in Audioslave, after Zack left a couple of years ago to pursue a solo career and has hardly been heard of since.
