My daughter borrowed this album from one of her friends and insists on playing it at all hours of the day and night, particularly the track "Jesus Walks".
I personally find that this entire album grates on my wife and I mainly due to the incessant looping of samples and repetitive droning of Kanye's voice making the same self-righteous statements over-and-over again. Whatever the artist's background and whatever trials he has faced, the fact remains that musically I cannot condone this album. The copying of samples from other sources, although clever, leaves me with the (perhaps misgiven) impression that Kanye West is piggy-backing off the success of other established musicians and their tunes. I also have to remind my daughter that playing the album louder does not make it any better...
The psuedo-christian references made throughout the album, although nice to hear for a change, do not sit comfortably with the use of expletives... I would not recommend this album for young children. Or to anyone for that matter...
Perhaps my attitude to this album shows that I am ageing and turning into my parents before me, but I cannot find anything really positive to say about "The College Dropout". I am pleased that someone still dares to say "Jesus" in a non-derogatory way in public, I just wish I could reconcile the Jesus of the Bible with that of the Kanye displayed on the rest of this album.
Overall, I would give this one a miss...
